Position Highlights The Department of East Asian Studies in the College of Humanities at the University of Arizona invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor in Korean Language starting August 14, 2023. The selected candidate will teach modern Korean language classes, depending on department needs.

The Department of East Asian Studies offers Bachelor of Arts degrees and offers programs leading to Master of Arts (MA) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in East Asian Studies, Chinese (modern history, religion and thought, literature, and linguistics) and Japanese (linguistics, literature, and religion).

Your teaching load may make you eligible for benefits if you work a .50 FTE or greater for 90 days or longer. As courses and loads are determined, we will notify employees should they gain benefits eligibility status.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Teaching up to four modern Korean language classes at all levels per semester based on department needs.
  • Working collaboratively to further the development of the Korean language program.
  • Holding office hours.
  • Preparing teaching materials independently and collaboratively.
  • Attending meetings and/or events as requested.
  • Actively recruiting EAS majors and Korean minors.
  • Actively recruiting students to departmental courses in Korean.
  • Additional duties may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Masters in Korean Linguistics, Korean Pedagogy, or related field in hand.
  • Native or near-native fluency in Korean and English is required.
  • A minimum of one year teaching experience and a record of excellence in teaching at colleges in the US.
Preferred Qualifications
  • An excellent command of digital/online resources and experience of utilizing them for teaching the language.
