THE KOREA SOCIETY is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, 501(c)(3) organization with individual and corporate members that is dedicated solely to the promotion of greater awareness, understanding, and cooperation between the people of the United States and Korea.

Description:

The Korea Society seeks a creative, self-motivated, organized person to fill a position in the Korean Studies Education team. This position will support all aspects of Korean Studies activities; will be particularly involved with Korean Language Programs. Candidates with one to three years of experience in the nonprofit or cultural organization are encouraged to apply.

Principal Responsibilities:

Korean Language Program

Serves as the primary contact and coordinator of the Society’s Korean Language Program (KLP). Duties for this Program include:

  • Promotion: create promotional messages and post via web, and social media as well as email campaigns
  • Registration: maintain a robust registration system, monitor registrations, and payments; authorize refunds as needed; and, create class rosters
  • Student Placement: administer placement tests and interviews; determine course placement and confirm placements
  • Program Management: Establish an annual calendar of term dates along with course offerings and formats (in-person or virtual), course dates and hours, fees, and class size; authorize student and instructor access to the building for in-person offerings and to online platforms for virtual offerings
  • Instructors: hire, evaluate, and retain instructional staff; suggest salaries and payment schedules
  • Curriculum: in consultation with teachers, set teaching objectives and select textbooks
  •  Evaluations: Conduct, compile, and analyze end-of-term student evaluations; identifying improvements as appropriate
  • New Programming: Based on experience, field research, and student feedback, develop new programming for the KLP
  • Report: track and report on outreach efforts, registration goals, enrollment and demographics, student satisfaction, and yearly enrollment and demographic trends

Education

  • Assist the Senior Advisor of Education in planning and coordinating Education Programs
  • Assist Senior Advisor of Education in researching education speakers, funding sources, and partnering with other organizations to organize regular programs
  • Assist with on-site program management including reception and registration, event A/V tasks, setup and breakdown
  • Assist live webcast and video release programs by managing audience questions and supporting Senior Advisor of Education

Other

  • Assist the Senior Advisor for Education during annual report and grant process periods
  • Utilize social media to promote Education/Korean Studies programs
  • Update and utilize Salesforce
  • Assist in recruiting and managing interns in the area of responsibility

Required Skills: 

    • Academic background in Korean and/or Asian Studies, and Education
    • Language teaching or language center administration preferred
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal as well as strong interpersonal skills
    • Proficient in using social media tools such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter; knowledge of Salesforce a plus
    • Demonstrated multitasking ability, commitment to follow-through on assignments, and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative, as well as collaborate as part of a team
    • Previous experience in outreach and promotion
    • Master’s degree preferred
    • Position requires infrequent nights and weekends
  •  Must be eligible to work in the US (no visa sponsorship)

  • $60K - $65K Depending on Experience
