Languages and Linguistics at York St John University is looking to build up a bank of part time casual and fixed term academic staff to support delivery of our exciting portfolio of programmes.

The Role
We seek to appoint part-time hourly paid lecturers/tutors to contribute to the delivery of our programmes in English language and linguistics, Korean language, Japanese language, British Sign Language and Deaf studies. The number of hours worked will be flexible and by negotiation. The rate of pay includes remuneration for all work done in connection with teaching, preparation, setting and marking of student work, related course administration and includes an allowance for holiday pay.
Applications are invited from applicants who have expertise and experience in teaching any one of the following areas:
- Introductory grammar
- Phonetics and/or phonology (either introductory or higher level)
- Semantics and pragmatics
- Forensic linguistics
- Psycholinguistics
- Sociolinguistics
- Discourse analysis
- Speech and language pathology
- TESOL
- Child language acquisition
- Second language acquisition
- Japanese language
- Korean language
- British Sign Language
- Deaf Studies
The number of hours taught will vary considerably and will depend on both the availability of the individual and the needs of the programmes.
Candidates should hold at least a master’s degree or equivalent (e.g. relevant professional qualifications) in a related subject. Previous experience of teaching at university level would be an advantage. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills in English language, be able to demonstrate understanding of student support, be able to motivate students, and be willing work in a team.
