Position Summary
The Office of International Education at the University at Buffalo (UB) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate in Korean Studies. The position is open to scholars from all fields whose research relates to Korea, with preference given to applicants with research and/or teaching interests concerning contemporary Korea.
This position will be part of the Asia Research Institute (ARI), and the individual hired will be an active member of ARI as well as of the UB Korean studies community. The Postdoctoral Associate is to:
- Maintain an active program of research in their field of expertise, including giving a lecture in UB’s Asian Studies Program’s lecture series in Korean Studies
- Assist with academic programming for the Asia Research Institute and the Korean studies program, including supporting ARI’s undergraduate fellows program
- Teach one undergraduate course in Korean studies
- Assist the Project Principal Investigator with planning, reporting, and other aspects of the project
Position benefits include some funds to support research activities, including participating in academic conferences and other career development activities. This is a 9.5 month appointment, with salary prorated accordingly, and is expected to be available from August 15, 2024 – May 31, 2025.

Minimum Qualifications
- PhD (or equivalent) degree in a field related to Korean Studies, with that degree conferred within the past four years (A successful applicant must have their Ph.D. degree conferred by August 31, 2024. )
- Emerging record of scholarly productivity
- Excellent written communication skills, as demonstrated by prior publications, and excellent verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Applicants whose research/teaching interests concern contemporary Korea
- Experience teaching and/or mentoring students in a US higher education environment
Salary Range
$52,000
