[Beloit College] Summer Instructor of Korean – beginning or second-year, online
Responsibilities: Teaching Beginning Korean (first-year) or Second Year Korean, covering one year’s worth of college course material in seven weeks in a synchronous, online format. Other responsibilities include student tutoring and office hours outside of class, optional lunch conversation, supporting student talent show performances and recording, and supporting cultural activities carried out at home.
Period of appointment: June 15 – August 2, 2024.
About Center for Language Studies: Beloit College’s Center for Language Studies has 40 years of experience providing excellent intensive critical language instruction during the summer. Courses in 2023 will include Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Russian. Students in 2024 will engage in online “virtual immersion” with a supportive network of instructors, peers and program staff, making for a transformative summer of learning and growth.
Qualifications: A master’s degree or higher, preferably in Korean language pedagogy, applied linguistics, or a related field in education or Korean studies. Native or near-native fluency in Korean and English. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in teaching Korean at college-level in the United States.
Teaching Schedule: Classes meet from 9 am – 12 noon and 1 pm – 2 pm, Central Time, Monday through Friday. Session 1 runs from June 17th – July 9th, and Session 2 runs from July 11th through August 2nd. Each session constitutes the equivalent of one semester of college-level study. The textbook is Integrated Korean.
Compensation: salary is $4,350 per session and $8,700 for the full seven-week program. CLS seeks instructors able to commit to the full summer program.
