Introduce:

The School of Foreign Languages and Cultures at Chongqing University, established in 1995, traces its roots back to the Department of Foreign Languages founded in 1932. In 2000, the School merged with the Department of Foreign Languages from the former Chongqing Jianzhu University and the English Teaching and Research Office from the former Chongqing Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture, forming the new School of Foreign Languages and Cultures. In 2022, the Department of International Chinese Education was incorporated into the School. Over nearly a century, distinguished scholars such as Professor Wu Mi, a master of both Chinese and Western cultures, Professor Zhu Wenzhen, an expert in Shakespeare studies, and Professor Zhou Kaocheng, a specialist in English phonetics, have taught here, fostering a rich humanistic heritage and establishing a tradition of academic excellence and distinctive educational features.

The School offers first-level doctoral and master’s degree programs in Foreign Languages and Literature, and professional master’s degree programs in Translation and Interpretation, as well as International Chinese Education. It also hosts domestic visiting scholars. The Applied Linguistics discipline was among the first key construction disciplines in Chongqing, and Foreign Languages and Literature has been a key discipline in Chongqing’s 12th, 13th, and 14th Five-Year Plans. The School’s “Research Center for Language, Cognition and Language Application” is a key research base for humanities and social sciences in Chongqing. Other research institutes include the Center for Foreign Literature, Culture, and Media Studies, the Center for Latin Language and Literature Studies, and the Eco Studies Center. The School has laboratories for language cognition and brain science, near-infrared spectroscopy, big data, simultaneous interpretation, and translation. It is also home to the Chongqing Higher Education Association’s University Foreign Language Teaching Research Committee. In recent years, the faculty has led dozens of national research projects, producing influential academic results and winning awards such as the Lu Xun Literary Translation Award, the Second Prize for Outstanding Achievements in Scientific Research from the Ministry of Education, and multiple national and provincial teaching and research awards.

The School comprises departments of English, Japanese, German, International Chinese Education, a University Foreign Language Education Center, and a Graduate Education Center. It offers undergraduate programs in English, Japanese, German, and International Chinese Education, and courses in nine languages: English, Japanese, German, Italian, French, Greek, Korean, Latin, and Sanskrit. The study of Latin literature is particularly renowned nationwide. The English program is a national first-class undergraduate program (2019) and part of Chongqing’s “Three Special Action Plan” project. The Japanese and German programs are first-class undergraduate programs in Chongqing (2021). The school boasts numerous national, municipal, and university-level high-quality courses and key courses, including the national high-quality course “College English” and the national teaching team “College English Teaching Team.” The “Chongqing University Language and Phonetics Experimental Teaching Center” is a Chongqing Municipal Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center.

Adhering to the socialist direction in education and prioritizing moral education, the School aims to become a significant base for cultivating high-level foreign language talents and conducting scientific research. It actively integrates into the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle and contributes to China’s modernization. Hongshen Young Teacher

Application Requirements: Candidates should be doctoral graduates from other universities who possess an excellent academic background and achievements, have produced high-quality research outcomes, and demonstrate significant potential for innovative development.

Benefits:

  • For the first 3 years, the pre-tax salary of RMB 250,000/year, with additional performance-based rewards. After passing the mid-term assessment, performance-based salary will be implemented according to the professional position standards.
  • Relocation allowance of RMB 200,000;
  • Research start-up funds of RMB 100,000 for science, engineering, and medical sciences, and RMB 50,000 for humanities and social sciences;
  • During the appointment period, if the candidates are selected for the national postdoctoral innovative talent support plan, salary will be increased during the funding period.
  • Hongshen Young Teachers can independently choose to enter the postdoctoral mobile station.
