  • Be familiar with and abide by Concordia Language Villages’ Employee Policies.
  • Promote all staff members’ and participants’ health, safety, and well-being.
  • Develop and maintain collegial relationships among all staff, including support staff, for a productive working atmosphere at the Village that promotes the mission of the Language Villages.
  • Speak the target language with participants and staff members as much as possible.

Position ResponsibilitiesLanguage Lead Teacher (“Program Leader”): (teaching licensure preferred for high school credit programs)

  • Develop and implement a linguistically and culturally appropriate learner-centered program for the Village, working in consultation with the Program Director.
  • Hire, orient and supervise Language Teacher(s) and Cultural Assistant(s) if applicable. Many Youth Clubs, Adult Classes and Conversation Circles operate with just the leader.
  • Create and implement the educational curriculum.
  • Arrange for pre-session planning: communications for registrants ( CLV also has regularly scheduled communications with participants), choose texts (if applicable), supplies, assessments (if applicable), and placement tools (if applicable).

Language Teacher (“Staff”): Under the direction of the Program Leader, plan, teach and assess language classes.

  • Maintain communication with the Program Leader on the progress of all participants.
  • For credit programs only: Maintain accurate grade records and complete mid-session progress reports and final evaluations.
  • Assist with other aspects of virtual Village life, including cultural presentations and activity periods.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by the Program Leader.

Skill And Abilities

  • Proficiency in the target language and English, Intermediate or higher
  • Skill with learners in the relevant age demographic (Clubs: 10-18; Adults: 18+; Credit: high school students)
  • Skills in related cultural/recreational areas

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A., B.S.) or international equivalent (Required for Credit Lead Teachers, negotiable for Clubs, Conversation Circles and Adult Classes)
  • Intermediate or higher proficiency in the Village language (spoken) and written where applicable.
  • Experience in the target language and culture.
  • Experience working with learners in the relevant age demographic.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A., B.S.) or international equivalent Teaching licensure or experience.
  • Experience as a teacher in the United States school system is preferred for Credit lead teachers.
  • Previous experience with Concordia Language Villages or other experiential learning.
