Position Details |
The College of East Asian Studies at Wesleyan University invites applications for an appointment as a one-year, full-time Visiting Assistant Professor of Korean Language and Culture beginning Fall 2023. The visitor will teach a five-course combination of intermediate and advanced Korean-language classes, and two courses in the area of their specialization. Normally, the courses of specialization would be taught in English.

Minimum Qualifications |
Minimum qualifications are a PhD or ABD status in Korean language, linguistics, education, literature, film, history, anthropology, sociology, popular culture, or other related field at the time of appointment (if ABD, the appointment will be as an Instructor until PhD has been conferred). Applicants must have native or near-native proficiency in Korean and English. Those with teaching experiences at all levels with both heritage and non-heritage learners of Korean at the college level in the US are most welcome to apply.

You will be asked to upload electronic versions of the items we require, which are: (1) a letter of application explaining professional qualifications and teaching philosophy, (2) curriculum vitae, (3) a teaching portfolio, (4) sample sets of student evaluations, (5) a document containing a link to an online sample teaching demo video (uploaded as “Work Sample”). In the cover letter, candidates should describe how they will embrace the college’s commitment to fostering an inclusive community, as well as their experience working with individuals from historically marginalized or underserved groups.
You will also be asked to provide the email addresses of two referees from whom we may obtain confidential letters of recommendation (please double-check the accuracy of the email addresses of the referees you name to ensure that you have the most up-to-date email addresses for each one). After you have submitted all of the required documents, you will see a confirmation number. At that point, each of your referees whose email addresses you have provided will receive an automatically-generated email requesting that he or she submit a letter of reference for you. |
