About the Faculty of Arts & Asia Institute
The Faculty of Arts at the University of Melbourne brings together leading scholars across 40 disciplines of study in the Humanities and Social Sciences. Alongside the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty consists of five interdisciplinary Schools including the Asia Institute. Asia Institute – the University’s key centre for study in Asian languages and cultures, with programs including Arabic, Chinese, Indonesian and Japanese languages, alongside Asian, Islamic and Contemporary Chinese Studies.
About the Role
The Lecturer in Korean Studies will undertake teaching in their discipline or related areas. They will contribute to teaching at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate level, and engage in professional activities appropriate to their profession or discipline. The Lecturer of Korean Studies will also undertake administration primarily relating to their activities within the Faculty and may be required to perform the full academic responsibilities of, and related administration for, the coordination of an award program of the University.
Key responsibilities include:
- Subject coordination and delivery, including supervision of tutors
- Supervision of honours and postgraduate students, as required.
- Set up and regular maintenance of the relevant subject sites on the Learning Management System (LMS);
- Development of technology-based teaching, learning and assessment programs and resources
- Curriculum design and innovation that contributes to strengthening Korean Studies in both language and non-language education
About You
You will possess well-established academic skills and strong academic performance. Your communication and interpersonal skills are vital in this role as you are required to be able to work effectively as part of a team and engage with a variety of stakeholders.
You will also have:
- A completed PhD in a relevant discipline
- Demonstrated specialisation in Korean Studies
- Demonstrated ability for excellence in teaching Korean language and other aspects of Korean society, including course coordination, lecturing, tutoring and the capacity to initiate course development
- Ability to supervise honours and postgraduate theses
