Job Description:

Principal Responsibilities and Duties
  • Prepare and teach courses in the field of Korean to a diverse student population based on the department’s approved course learning outcomes, utilizing a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to the needs of community college students and the standards of the discipline.
  • Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback reflecting program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.
  • Provide teaching and mentoring services to students in a manner which does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected categories.
  • Remain current in the field through a variety of professional development activities.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Department of East Asian Studies (EAS) at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for an assistant-level Professor of Teaching with the potential for security of employment in Applied Linguistics (Japanese and/or Korean), appointment to begin 1 July 2024. The teaching load for Professors of Teaching in the School of Humanities is six regular courses per year over three quarters. Professors of Teaching may be granted course release for major service duties beyond their regularly expected service assignments. We welcome applicants who can teach Japanese and/or Korean language; topics in linguistics and language pedagogy, heritage language theory and instruction, Asian diaspora studies, Global Asia, and/or bilingual education. A Ph.D. is required by the time of appointment.

As a member of the University of California Academic Senate, the successful candidate will be eligible for UCI’s faculty housing, medical, and retirement programs. Appointment, merit, and promotion in the Professor of Teaching series require, in addition to excellence in teaching and service, that the candidate make outstanding and externally recognized contributions in research/creative activity in pedagogy and/or the discipline. The successful candidate will train graduate students in language pedagogy, oversee language programs, build curricular ties between the language and content sides of our undergraduate majors in EAS, help expand the minor in East Asian/English bilingual education, and innovate the language programs in the Department of East Asian Studies.

Primary Responsibilities:  Plan for appropriate learning experiences for students in the Dual Language Immersion Program based on the district Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum and provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students.

1.        Demonstratecommand of school subjects being taught in the target language.

2.        Develop and prioritize short and long-terminstructional objectives based on district AKS curriculum.

Course Description:

LGGA12H3 – Beginner Korean II 

Beginner Korean II is the continuation of Beginner Korean I. Designed for students who have completed Beginner Korean I, the course will build upon and help to solidify knowledge of the Korean language already learnt. Additional grammar patterns, as well as commonly used vocabulary and expressions will be covered. Further weekly cultural titbits will also be introduced to assist and enrichen the language learning experience. The overall aim of the course is to give students a stronger grasp of beginner level Korean, prepare them for higher levels of Korean language study, increase their knowledge of contemporary Korean culture and enable them to communicate with Korean native speakers about daily life.

Estimated enrolment: 30

 

Qualifications:

Native or near-native fluency in Korean.
M.A. in Korean languages, Linguistics, Teaching a Foreign Language, Second Language Acquisition, or equivalent. ABD (Ph. D.) preferred.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching Korean language courses at the introductory or intermediate levels.

 

Duties:

All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours.

Salary: in accordance with the current CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement, the stipend rate for a half course (Y, F or S), inclusive of vacation pay, will be the following. Rates for replacement Sessional Lectureres will be prorated.:

Description

The Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures at Yale University seeks a Lector/Senior Lector I in Korean language, start date July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2027. This is a 3-year full-time appointment with renewal contingent on excellent performance and sufficient enrollments. Primary duties include teaching six courses or the equivalent per year, which can be realized through teaching five term courses in the language sequence with a sixth equivalent of effort in, for example, administration and course coordination.

Salary and rank are commensurate with experience and qualifications. If the initial appointment is at the rank of Lector, a promotion review for Senior Lector I must take place in the fifth year or earlier. Senior lectors at Yale are expected to participate in teaching-related professional activities (e.g., workshops, seminars, training activities, conferences) and have no limits on reappointment, provided there is successful performance and ongoing curricular need.

Lectors are eligible for Yale’s generous package of benefits, including health coverage, and they are encouraged to participate in the wide range of professional development opportunities offered through the Center for Language Study, the Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning, and the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office.

Qualifications

Applicants must have: 1) native or near-native fluency in Korean; 2) a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent, by the time of hire. It is strongly preferred that applicants have: 1) experience teaching Korean in a U.S. university or equivalent to heritage and non-heritage learners, using current teaching methodologies; 2) M.A. or Ph.D., by the time of hire, in second-language pedagogy, Korean language/linguistics, applied linguistics, or other related field. Experience in curriculum development and incorporating technology in the classroom is desirable. Research profile in foreign language pedagogy a plus.

This new co-educational K-12 international day school plans to open Pre-K – Grade 9 classes in August 2024 (with more grades offered in the following years). The school plan to offer the IB PYP, IB MYP and IB DP. Class sizes will be small and about 20 pupils per class. There will be two campuses comprising of an Early Childhood Division (ECD) and a Main Campus (Grades 1-12). 

The school is located in the city of Hanoi (about 25 minutes from downtown Hanoi) and will offer an exciting opportunity for ambitious international teachers.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • They are looking for well-qualified Teachers to join their founding team.
  • For work permit applications, teachers must have a degree and valid teaching credential and be able to produce evidence of at least 3 years of professional teaching experience.
  • The school prefer candidates who have the relevant IB experience and previous international experience.

Online Korean Teachers (freelance)

Job description:
As a LingoCircle instructor, you will teach children 3 to 15 years old remotely using a communicative method, leveraging your creativity to maintain high levels of motivation and engagement with all children in a virtual setup. Our classrooms have a maximum of 5 children. Training and access to our team of childhood education experts is provided.

Job requirements:
– Native Korean speaker
– Fluent or intermediate level in English
– Warm, loving, creative with a positive attitude and appreciation of children.
– Bachelor degree
– Minimum 2 years classroom or teaching experience – teaching experience with children is a plus.
– Foreign language teaching certificate a plus.
– Must be comfortable working with children 3 to 15 years old.
– Willing to commit to a regular weekly working schedule
– Comfort and proficiency with technology and eagerness to experiment with new tools
Weekly Working hours:

4-8pm (Eastern Time) and/or Saturdays/Sundays (Flexible, depends on your free time)
