Transformations in Love, Marriage and Gender Relations in Contemporary South Korea: An Anthropological Perspective

Position for postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute of Asian and Transcultural Studies, Vilnius University, Lithuania is available.

About the project

The two-year postdoc fellowship project will explore transformations in romantic love, marriage and gender relations in South Korean society. Research will be carried out under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Victor de Munck and in close interaction with other members of his group.

This project will aim to understand the changing conceptions and practices of intimate relations among South Korean youth as they are an integral part of a larger process of societal transformation. The research will use a holistic approach to describe and analyze changes in perceptions of love, marriage, and gender relations in contemporary South Korea through considering the dynamics between cultural, economic and linguistic aspects of South Korean life. The research will also investigate how these changes are influenced by the historically constituted norms and practices of gender relations, as well as contemporary gender images circulating in the media. More materially, the research will take into account economic factors affecting intimate relations and will research how these changes are reflected in linguistic practices.

Budget: Staff cost: full-time work position – 2 152 Eur/per month (all taxes included); 24 months x 2 152 Eur., at all 51 648 Eur. Cost amount for project activities implementation – up to 10 000 Eur.

Requirements:

  • PhD in Social Sciences or Humanities, preferably in the field of Sociocultural Anthropology;
  • Experience in doing fieldwork in South Korea (advantage);
  • English language skills (C1 level and above).

A complaint alleging retaliation or unlawful discrimination (such as discriminatory harassment, intimidation, or bullying) must be filed not later than six months from the date it occurred, or six months from the date the complainant first obtained knowledge of the facts of the alleged unlawful discrimination. The time for filing may be extended for up to 90 days by the Superintendent or designee for good cause upon written request by the complainant setting forth the reasons for the extension. The complainant has a right to appeal the District’s decision to the CDE by filing a written appeal within 15 calendar days of receiving the District’s decision. In any complaint alleging unlawful discrimination (such as discriminatory harassment, intimidation, or bullying), the respondent also shall have the right to file an appeal with the CDE in the same manner as the complainant, if he/she is dissatisfied with the District’s decision. PART-TIME KOREAN LANGUAGE INSTRUCTOR

SELECTION PROCEDURE:
Applications will be screened by appropriate department representatives on an as-needed basis. Qualified applicants who best meet the needs of the division will be contacted for an interview.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:

  • Standard duties expected of all part-time faculty include the performance of instructional, counselor, or librarian duties as assigned; evaluation and assessment of student work; and timely submission of grades. In addition, part-time faculty are expected to participate in the assessment of their performance, including administrative and student evaluations. Part-time faculty may also have opportunities to participate in various campus and staff development activities and are encouraged to be involved in the larger College or District community. Part-time faculty may be eligible to receive additional pay for office hours, additional assignments, and professional development events. 
  • Teach elementary, intermediate, and advanced Korean language courses.

Position Summary
Founded in 2015, Indiana University’s Institute for Korean Studies (IKS) promotes interdisciplinary approaches to the understanding of Korea, on campus and beyond, focusing upon the advancement of cultural fluency by providing programs for students, faculty, and the community. The IKS is housed within the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies (HLS). HLS has a dual emphasis that distinguishes it from other schools in the United States, placing equal emphasis on cultural fluency and applied social policy. To influence and change U.S. and transnational businesses, governments, and nonprofits, our students and faculty need to understand the languages, literatures, and ways of life of various parts of the world, in addition to critical issues, such as global governance, security, trade and development, human rights, migration, health, and climate change, that transcend any one nation or region.

The Institute for Korean Studies (IKS) at Indiana University is now accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in the 2023-24 academic year. The Fellow should conduct research related to Korea. The Fellow should maintain an active presence on campus, participating in IKS events and interacting with faculty and students.
 
The Fellow will be required to:
· Remain in residence during the period of the Fellowship
· Work on revising their doctoral dissertation for publication as a monograph
· Deliver a public lecture during the appointment period
· Mentor IKS Undergraduate Research Fellows
· Participate in planning and executing Institute for Korean Studies programming

The postdoctoral fellowship will provide a stipend of $55,000 plus benefits as well as conference travel funds up to $2,000. The Fellow will be provided workspace and have full use of the campus and its libraries.
Basic Qualifications
Ph.D. holders from Political Science, Sociology, Anthropology, Literature, History, and other associated fields with articulable research foci based within Korean Studies are encouraged to apply.
The applicant who is awarded the fellowship must have completed all requirements for their Ph.D. (dissertation deposited) by June 30, 2023.

Position Summary

Job Summary
Teach World Language courses at the beginning and/or intermediate college level for the Humanities & Languages Division of Salt Lake Community College.

Languages currently taught include Arabic, Chinese, French, Italian, Japanese, Nahuatl, Portuguese, Spanish, Russian and Vietnamese. We are especially interested in applications from qualified instructors of Korean with experience teaching novice-level language learners.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
1) Becomes familiar with and follows the current course curriculum outlines, and engages in accepted best pedagogical practices to maximize student learning.
2) Collaborates with the course lead/mentor and other instructors to ensure consistency in course syllabi, pedagogy, assignments, ePortfolio work, testing, grading, and so forth.
3) Supports the College’s mission, vision, and values by incorporating appropriate cultural material representing a broad variety of ethnicities, national origins, socioeconomic groups and other identities, in additional to using inclusive pedagogical practices in the classroom.
4) Prepares and administers student assessments. Provides appropriate and timely feedback.
5) Maintains accurate and complete student attendance records (for Financial Aid and Department purposes), grades, and other classroom documentation as applicable. Grades must be maintained on the College’s learning management system.
6) Conducts a variety of appropriate evaluations of student performance. Informs students of progress to date periodically and assigns and submits grades by published deadlines.
7) Becomes familiar with, and abides by, all college policies with immediate priority given to those policies that govern interactions with colleagues, staff, administrators, and departments throughout the organization.
8) Provides ADA accommodations as requested.
9) Completes required department paperwork on time.
10) Completes/attends required College, department, and program trainings; participates where possible in other trainings, as appropriate.
11) Handles/responds to student concerns/complaints, and responds to student communications and inquiries promptly (generally within 1‐2 business days).
12) Meets with course mentor and/or the hiring supervisor as needed.
13) Works closely with department peers and administrator to understand processes and procedures that lead to becoming a successful teacher.
14) Creates an effective, supportive learning environment for students regardless of delivery method.
15) Teaches courses consistent with department procedures, appropriate Course Curriculum Outline (CCO) and catalog description.
16) Provides each student with a syllabus (paper or online) at the first class meeting that complies with department procedure and the CCO
17) Assists in maintaining a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment.
18) Prepares and submits incident reports to Dean of Student Services for inappropriate student behavior as defined by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy.
19) Maintains professional appearance as defined by the discipline and/or College procedure.
20) Completes all required employee trainings in a timely fashion.
21) Knows and follows FERPA guidelines.

23) Maintains professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
24) Provides appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments.
25) Returns graded assignments in a timely fashion per department standards.
26) Conducts a variety of appropriate evaluations of student performance. Informs students of progress to date periodically and assigns and submits grades by published deadlines
27) Maintains professional and collegial behavior
Minimum Qualifications
1) M.A. or Ph.D. in the target language (literature or culture), or a related language degree.
2) Native or advanced level of fluency in the target language.
3) Native or near-native level of fluency in English.
4) One year of experience teaching beginning or intermediate language at the college level.
5) Training in foreign language pedagogy and knowledge of best practices.
6) ESL instructors should apply to the ESL program, part of the School of Applied Technology and Technical Specialties.
7) At this time language adjuncts are not assigned online classes. Local residency is therefore expected.
Preferred Qualifications
1) M.A. or Ph.D. in the target language (literature or culture), or a related language degree.
2) Native level of fluency in the target language, or a ranking of Advanced-Mid or higher as scored by an official Oral Proficiency Interview of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. Adjuncts hired to teach CLAC or other bridge courses are required to demonstrate proficiency of Advanced High or higher.
3) Two or more years of experience teaching beginning and intermediate language at the college level.
4) Training in foreign language pedagogy and knowledge of best practices.
5) Skilled in the use of Canvas or other learning management systems.
6) Knowledge of and experience in computer assisted learning, and in online language instructional methodologies.

– Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
– Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.

This is a pooled position. The department reviews applications as positions become available.

1. Applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States.
2. In accordance with SLCC policy, adjunct positions are offered on a semester by semester basis with no guarantee of continued employment.
3. Official transcripts are required for those who are offered employment within 30 days of hire.
4. In accordance with Board of Regents policy, SLCC’s Human Resources will conduct a criminal background check on instructors if concurrent enrollment (K-12) students are assigned to classes.

Assistant Professor (Teaching)/Lecturer in German/Spanish/Korean/Japanese (Ref. AC2023/016/01)

The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen is established in accordance with the Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on Chinese-foreign Cooperation in Running Schools upon approval of the Ministry of Education. It inherits the educational philosophy and academic systems of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It is intended to evolve into a world-class research university with strong Chinese cultural influence. It is committed to nurturing high end talent with global perspective, Chinese tradition and social responsibility.

The School of Humanities and Social Science (HSS) undertakes two important missions for our university’s education. First, HSS offers university-core courses to all undergraduate students in multiple areas, including general education, English language competency, Chinese language competency, physical education and fitness, basic competency in information technology (IT) applications, etc. These areas lay the foundation for the comprehensive education that all CUHK-Shenzhen students receive. Second, HSS also offers its own undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Currently, HSS offers three undergraduate programmes (Bachelor of Arts in Translation, Bachelor of Arts in English Studies, and Bachelor of Science in Applied Psychology), four graduate programmes (Master of Arts in Translation and Interpreting Studies, Master of Arts in Simultaneous Interpreting, Master of Arts in Global Studies, and Master of Science in Applied Psychology), and two doctoral programmes in Global Studies and Applied Psychology respectively.

HSS is looking for applicants who have strong interest in joining the Language and Communication Division and helping our students to learn foreign languages other than English. The appointees are expected to commence work in AY 2022-23.

 

Post Specification

Qualifications and Requirements:

Applicants should have a doctoral degree in related fields from a renowned university and at least 3 years of experience in teaching German, Spanish, Korean, or Japanese to students at the tertiary level. Applicants should be able to teach in both English and the language that they specialize in.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. teaching required non-English courses targeting language majors;
  2. teaching elective courses;
  3. assisting in curriculum development and administrative assignments.

 

Salary & Benefits

Salary will be competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment will be made under the establishment of CUHK, Shenzhen and statutory benefits will be provided according to the prevailing labor laws applicable in the People’s Republic of China. The appointee will be based at the University campus in Shenzhen, China.

특수지 근무수당


특수지 근무 수당을 지급하지 않는 국가도 많습니다. 그리고 인도의 전지역이 특수지 근무수당을 받는 것도 아닙니다. 하지만 이번 한국어교원 해외 파견 공고에 포함된 인도 첸나이 지역은 “다 지역”에 해당하여 특수지 근무수당이 30만원입니다.
