Other Conditions:
Fall 2022/Spring 2023/Summer 2023, part-time, for lecturer applicant pool. Non-tenurial, pending availability of funds, and actual staffing requirements. May be for Leeward CC day, evening, or weekend offerings on- and off-campus. This includes the Waianae campus and Early College.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
 

  1. Teach assigned courses in the discipline.
  2. Maintain minimum of one office hour per week for each course taught.
  3. Prepare course syllabus and reports related to teaching and student progress
  4. Work under supervision of discipline coordinator/division chairperson in integrating teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area.
  5. May include instructional assignments involving distance education.

 
Minimum Qualifications
 

  1. Functionally native oral and written fluency in Korean, the ability to communicate in English, and one of the following: (a) Master’s in Korean (language or literature); OR (b) Master’s in Korean as a Second Language; OR (c) Master’s in the study of the culture or history of the people who speak Korean; OR (d) Master’s in Linguistics, ESL, Education or another language. At least 12 credits of advanced coursework in second language methodology, Korean literature, Korean culture, or any combination thereof.
  2. All minimum qualifications must be from a regionally accredited institution and met by the effective date of appointment.  If qualified applicants are not available, those not meeting the minimum qualifications may be considered on an exception basis.

 
Desirable Qualifications
 

  1. Teaching experience at a community college level. 
  2. Demonstrated ability to work with adult learners and communicate clearly. 
  3. Familiarity with competency-based instruction and behavioral objectives.

Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching at the undergraduate level (language and culture) and will assist in the development of new subjects as appropriate; managing of students who take Korean language and culture is also a requirement. The incumbent will also undertake all administrative tasks related with the Korean language and culture course.

Job Requirement

Applicants should possess a Master’s degree or higher in Korean language or a closely related field and native or near native proficiency in both Korean and English. Preference will be given to candidates with at least 2 years teaching experience. The appointee should demonstrate a strong sense of commitment, a track record of excellence in teaching, a capacity to design and deliver courses as well as sophisticated communication and presentation skills. Apart from teaching, he/she will be expected to perform administrative duties such as courses coordination and the preparation of official documents in English.

Salary commensurate with qualifications and relevant experience. Fringe benefits include housing allowance, leave and social insurance.  

Appointment Terms

Appointment to this position will initially be made on a fixed-term contract of two years. Continuation of appointment beyond the initial term will be subject to mutual agreement.

The Postdoctoral Fellow is expected to:

  3. Carry out some administrative responsibilities in planning events on campus, such as the Korea Institute seminar series, the annual Korea Update, and other programs.

The Department of East Asian Languages, Literatures and Cultures at the University of Virginia invites applications for the position of Lecturer in Korean with an anticipated start date of August 25, 2023. This is a full-time, non-tenure track position with the possibility of continuing employment after an initial three-year appointment.

We are particularly interested in candidates who can teach courses in all levels of Korean language. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) teaching three courses per semester, contributing to the development of the Korean program on Grounds and abroad, and active involvement in departmental service and student life.
 

Qualifications:

•       A completed Master’s degree in Korean linguistics, Korean pedagogy, applied linguistics, second/foreign language acquisition or a related field at the time of the appointment is required.

•       Native or near-native fluency in Korean and English is required.

•       At least one year of teaching experience at the university level preferred.

•       Knowledge of current trends in language teaching methodologies and familiarity with effective uses of technologies in language instruction are highly desirable.

•       Preference will be given to applicants with significant teaching experience in all levels of Korean language at the university level in the United States.

Overview
THIS IS A TEMPORARYHOURLY AS NEEDED POSITION WITHOUT PERMANENT STATUS.

This is a CONTINUOUS recruitment for an applicant POOL to fill part-time, temporary, hourly assignments on an as-needed basis. Department Information

With 36 full-time and approximately 30 part-time faculty members, the dynamic and growing department of WLC houses the B.A. degree program in Modern Language and Culture in several languages (Chinese, French, German, Italian, and Spanish) offering four unique concentrations (Second Language and Culture, Teacher Certification in Foreign Language, Applied Business, and Cross-disciplinary Perspectives.). In addition to offering the ML&C major, our minor programs in Chinese Studies, French and Francophone Studies, German Studies, Italian Studies, Japanese, Korean, Lusophone studies, and Spanish enrich students through a variety of foci and disciplinary approaches. WLC presents students the opportunity for instruction in various other languages via the Critical Languages Program such as American Sign Language (ASL), Arabic, Hebrew, Latin, and Russian. WLC also offers a non-degree Alternative Teacher Preparation Program leading to certification in Chinese, French, German, Latin, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish. The department is home to the World Languages Resource Collection (WLRC) which supports student achievement, innovates teaching materials and methodology, and advocates for learning about world languages and cultures. Job Summary

Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a twelve-month, administrative faculty position as a tenured Professor and Chair of the Department of World Languages and Cultures (WLC) in the Norman J. Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences beginning July 2023.

 

Responsibilities

The chair is responsible for providing department leadership and overseeing the department’s academic programs and budgets. The successful candidate should be an accomplished scholar with demonstrated administrative leadership skills and the ability to create an environment of collaboration, transparency, and shared governance. The chair will have the responsibility to promote and contribute to diversity, inclusion, and equity. Working in collaboration with department faculty, department staff, and the dean’s office, the chair will build a strategic vision for the department and support and enhance teaching effectiveness, scholarship and research, student success, and community outreach. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Teaching assignments will be based on earned degrees and SACSCOC Faculty Credentials Guidelines.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D., or foreign equivalent, in one of the languages taught in the Department, Cultural Studies, or a related discipline with an academic background and appropriate credentials to be a tenured professor in the Department of World Languages and Cultures (WLC) in the Norman J. Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and professional service commensurate with the rank of full professor
  • Demonstrated record of successful administrative and/or leadership experience in a department, college, or university setting
  • Demonstrated strong record of fostering diversity with emphasis on equity, inclusion, fairness, transparency, and professionalism
  • Successful experience working with faculty in building and implementing a strategic, long-term vision for the department.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Evidence of ensuring effective shared governance and advocating for faculty interests among the different programs
  • Previous experience in large and diverse departments and/or institutional settings that include faculty with varied areas of expertise
  • Previous experience designing and/or implementing successful curricular innovations, increasing enrollments, and recruiting and retaining majors and minors
  • Previous experience cultivating relationships with community, professional, and alumni/ae stakeholders
  • Evidence of fostering a positive work environment and constructive interpersonal relationships
  • Evidence of mentoring new faculty and facilitating successful applications for promotion and tenure
  • Previous experience with effective conflict resolution
  • Evidence of effective communication skills

Description

The Department of International Literary and Cultural Studies (ILCS) at Tufts University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in East Asian comparative literature/film/cultural studies, to begin September 1, 2023. The successful candidate will hold the Rumsey Family Assistant Professorship in the Humanities and the Arts.

ILCS is a newly redesigned comparative literature/film/cultural studies department in the School of Arts & Sciences at Tufts University. Our highly diverse faculty is dedicated to understanding the complexities of a changing world through literary, cinematic, and other expressions of human consciousness. We work collaboratively across our various language/culture areas and with many other departments and programs, including International Relations, Film and Media Studies, and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. Qualifications

We seek candidates conducting comparative research in at least two East Asian literary/cultural traditions, preferably Chinese, Japanese, or Korean. We also welcome applicants who extend their comparative expertise in this region more globally. PhD in a related humanities field completed by time of hire. Record of success as a college/university-level teacher, with publications in peer-reviewed venues preferred. 

Responsibilities. 1) Producing outstanding scholarship in areas related to the department and its programs. 2) Teaching courses in support of both single-language/area-focused programs and our broadly comparative ILVS (International Literary and Visual Studies) major. 3) Advising and mentoring of students, especially in theses and independent research projects. 4) Service to the department, to its programs, and to the University. 5) Outreach to other academic programs and departments relevant to the candidate’s interests.
