Description

The Department of Asian Languages & Literature at the University of Washington seeks to appoint a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor in Korean. The initial appointment, starting Autumn Quarter 2023, is for three years, with the possibility of renewal. The successful applicant will be expected to teach Korean language at all levels, develop curricular and teaching materials, team-teach, and train and supervise teaching assistants.  

The University of Washington has a vibrant and growing Korean language program, including a Korean major and minor. Teaching professors engage in teaching, service, and, optionally, research. They are voting members of the faculty and have a career path that includes the ranks of Assistant Teaching Professor, Associate Teaching Professor and Teaching Professor. This position is non-tenure-track and has a 9-month (Mid-September through mid-June) service period, with the possibility of teaching in the summer for additional compensation.

Qualifications

Applicants must have at least an M.A. degree or foreign equivalent in Korean, Foreign Language Teaching, or another relevant area, and must have native or near-native proficiency in Korean, be fluent in English, and have at least one year of experience teaching at the college or university level.

The Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a Teaching Professor (of any rank) position in Korean culture and visual culture, pending budgetary approval. The successful candidate should possess primary disciplinary training in Korean literature and culture and strong competence in film and media studies, performance studies, or a closely related discipline. A Ph.D. in Korean Studies or a related field is required by the time of appointment.

The appointment starts on September 1, 2023. The teaching load is six courses per year. The appointee will teach current undergraduate courses, develop new courses in the area of their specialization, help develop a new Korean major, and participate in the department’s interdisciplinary MA program. The successful candidate must demonstrate strengths as a teacher at all levels. The candidate must have a native or near-native user of Korean and English in all language skill areas. In addition, the new hire should be willing to take an active leadership role in the vigorous growth of the Korean program and collaborate closely with the established Korean language program. Besides working closely with other Korean studies faculty, the individual hired for this position is expected to collaborate with Asianists in other units to promote Korean studies and visual studies.

Description

The Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures at Yale University seeks a Lector/Senior Lector I in Korean language, start date July 1, 2023 – June 30, 2026. This is a 3-year full-time appointment with renewal contingent on excellent performance and sufficient enrollments. Primary duties include teaching six courses or the equivalent per year, which can be realized through teaching five term courses in the language sequence with a sixth equivalent of effort in, for example, administration and course coordination.

Salary and rank are commensurate with experience and qualifications. If the initial appointment is at the rank of Lector, a promotion review for Senior Lector I must take place in the fifth year or earlier. Senior lectors at Yale are expected to participate in teaching-related professional activities (e.g., workshops, seminars, training activities, conferences) and have no limits on reappointment, provided there is successful performance and ongoing curricular need.

Lectors are eligible for Yale’s generous package of benefits, including health coverage, and they are encouraged to participate in the wide range of professional development opportunities offered through the Center for Language Study, the Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning, and the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office.

Qualifications

Applicants must have: 1) native or near-native fluency in Korean; 2) a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent, by the time of hire. It is strongly preferred that applicants have: 1) experience teaching Korean in a U.S. university or equivalent to heritage and non-heritage learners, using current teaching methodologies; 2) M.A. or Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) by the time of hire, in second-language pedagogy, Korean language/linguistics, applied linguistics, or other related field. Experience in curriculum development and incorporating technology in the classroom is desirable. Research profile in foreign language pedagogy a plus.

The Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures at Yale University is looking to hire a tenure-track appointment at the rank of assistant professor in Korean literature/media and/or related humanities fields beginning July 1, 2023. Scholars of both premodern and modern Korea will be considered, and we encourage applications from scholars with any area of specialization, including those whose work traverses’ multiple East Asian languages and/or is comparative in method. The teaching expectation is normally four courses per academic year, plus service to the program.

Qualifications

The appointee must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree or have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. by time of hire. Applicants should have native or near-native fluency in Korean.

The School of Arts and Sciences, Department of Asian Languages and Cultures invites applications for a Part-time Instructor position in Korean language for Korean-English Translation and Interpreting courses starting January 2023.The appointment is for one semester, with the possibility of long-term renewal based on performance and funding availability.
The Rutgers Korean language program offers elementary through advanced levels of Korean language for major and non-major undergraduate students. The successful candidate is expected to work with current faculty members in the Korean-English Translation & Interpreting Certificate Program (https://alc.rutgers.edu/academics/undergraduate/the-korean-english-translation-interpreting-certificate-program) to support our goal of achieving excellence in teaching. Salary is commensurate with teaching experience and is based on Rutgers University salary scales.
COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Under Policy 60.1.35, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Job Duties and Responsibilities:

The School of Liberal Arts, Department of World Languages, is looking for adjunct faculty who are able to teach the Korean Language. Eligible candidates would be responsible for teaching daytime classes in either face-to-face or online synchronous modalities. Responsibilities include: assessing student progress in meeting the learning objectives through formal and informal assessment, meeting required deadlines for submitting grades, attendance, and other information, as requested, and adhering to safety procedures and departmental standards. Other duties include 45 hours of instruction per semester per class, and maintaining online materials in Canvas, AACC’s learning management system.

PT Instructor – Modern Languages (Korean) – Continuous Applicant Pool

Santa Monica College is a public, community college in Santa Monica, California.

Job Duties

  • Teach Korean courses

  • Maintain office hours

  • Participate in department and college flex day activities

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s Degree in the language being taught
       OR
A Bachelor’s Degree in the language being taught AND a Master’s Degree in another language or linguistics
       OR
the Equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching college-level beginning Korean in an accredited institution.

Pay Philosophy
Starting salaries for PT Faculty are based on educational achievement.  Initial placement is within the starting salary range.  Further advancements are based on longevity and educational growth.
