Korean Studies at UNSW, first introduced in 1994, has offered a Major, Minor and Diploma programs, as well as postgraduate research programs, within the University’s BA and HDR curriculums. The Korean Studies program at UNSW is one of the most active Korea-related programs in Australia, with a focus on the acquisition of Korean language skills and socio-cultural knowledge.
An Education-Focused Lecturer position is open for hire as a convertible tenure track to primarily teach Korean language at introductory and intermediate levels but also at post-intermediate levels when necessary, within the Korean Studies program. We welcome applications from Korean Studies specialists with a proven record of successfully teaching Korean language courses at tertiary levels and the ability to contribute to the general development of Korean Studies at UNSW.
The role of Lecturer reports to Head of School and has no direct reports.
Accountabilities
Specific accountabilities for this role include (but are not limited to):
- Demonstrate and continuously develop a well-defined teaching philosophy that inspires student learning;
- Conduct classes, assess student learning achievements and support students in assigned undergraduate or postgraduate courses in line with UNSW policy;
- Design and develop learning activities and resources, and assessment and feedback using a range of suitable approaches and learning environments;
- Initiate the development of experimental approaches to teaching and learning with the support of more senior academics;
- Support learning progression with students as individuals (through such activities as one-to-one consultation) and as a cohort (through general course related advice) to achieve positive learning and employability outcomes for students;
- Manage course administration as Course Authority, including academic quality assurance;
Who You Are
Skills and Experience required (but not limited to):
- A PhD or Master’s degree in Korean or a related discipline (e.g. applied linguistics, language education) and/or relevant work experience;
- Native or near-native abilities in Korean language;
- Actively stays up to date with discipline knowledge and developments;
- Demonstrated experience in and passion for teaching and learning delivery at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level;
- Experience using and/or designing with educational technologies and online delivery methods;
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence (e.g. relevant discipline-based curriculum design and development at a variety of levels and scales);
