(2) Proficiency in either Japanese or English is preferable.

(1) A Master’s degree or above, or achievements/experiences recognized as equivalent to a Master’s degree.

・More than one year of teaching experience in higher education
・Expert knowledge or outstanding experience in their field.

Course Description:

LGGA10H3 – Beginner Korean I

Beginner Korean I is an introductory course to the Korean language. Designed for students with no or minimal knowledge of the language, the course will first introduce the Hangeul alphabet (consonants and vowels) and how words are constructed (initial, medial, final sounds). Basic grammar patterns, frequently used vocabulary, and common everyday topics will be covered. Weekly cultural titbits will also be introduced to assist and enrichen the language learning experience. The overall aim of the course is to give students a strong grasp of the basics of the Korean language as well as elements of contemporary Korean culture.

 

Estimated enrolment: 30

 

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications
Native or near-native fluency in Korean.
M.A. in Korean languages, Linguistics, Teaching a Foreign Language, Second Language Acquisition, or equivalent. ABD (Ph. D.) preferred.
Experience teaching LGGA10H3 or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching Korean language courses at the introductory or intermediate levels.

 

Duties:

All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours.


Salary: in accordance with the current CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement, the stipend rate for a half course (Y, F or S), inclusive of vacation pay, will be the following. Rates for replacement Sessional Lectureres will be prorated.:

About the Role This role offers an exciting opportunity for an expert in Korean Language Education. You will also have:

  • Experience in managing events, specifically in relation to Korean Studies and Korean Language Teaching
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching Korean language
  • Demonstrated expertise in new media technologies and online teaching

Position Summary
The Department of Linguistics at the University of Buffalo, The State University of New York invites applications for a 10-month, full-time, non-tenure track lecturer position in the Korean language beginning Fall, 2023. The position is appointed with an initial one-year probationary contract with possibility of future renewal.

The successful candidate’s responsibilities include teaching three Korean language courses per semester, possibly at different levels, as well as providing assistance to the Director in the development of the Korean Program such as training and supervising graduate and undergraduate student teaching assistants, conducting placement tests, and (online) material development.

Minimum Qualifications
A Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Korean language and linguistics, language pedagogy, and/or applied linguistics is required.

Applicants must also have native or near-native fluency in Korean; excellent command of English; and experience teaching.

Also required are an explicit understanding of the linguistic properties of Korean; knowledge of the cultural background necessary to teach the language; familiarity with language-teaching methodologies, including technology-related pedagogy and flexibility in using different teaching methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD or EdD in disciplines such as Korean language pedagogy, Korean linguistics, applied linguistics, second language acquisition, foreign language education, or related fields is preferred.

Job Summary

Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a pool of open rank, part-time faculty positions in the Department of World Languages & Cultures for the academic year 2023-2024. These positions are on an as needed, semester-by-semester basis. Rank is determined at the time of hiring and will be commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include the following at a minimum:

  • Teaching undergraduate courses in American Sign Language, Arabic, Asian Languages, Chinese, Foreign Language Education, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Portuguese, Romance Languages, Russian, or Spanish

Teaching assignments will be based on earned degrees and SACSCOC Faculty Credentials Guidelines

Required Qualifications

An earned Master’s or Terminal/Doctorate degree, or the foreign equivalent, in the specific discipline or related field is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Native or near native fluency in the target language(s)
  • Previous experience in teaching world languages
  • Experience teaching online or hybrid courses

Pedagogical

Research
