Description

The Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Columbia University in the City of New York invites applications for the Korea Foundation Professor of Korean Studies in the Social Sciences. We seek a scholar who covers Modern Korean History to be appointed at the rank of professor or associate professor with tenure. The successful candidate will be appointed in the Department of History, working closely with the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures. Beyond teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Modern Korean History, the incumbent will be expected to participate in the activities of the Weatherhead East Asian Institute (WEAI) as well as play a leadership role at the Center for Korean Research, which is a research center within WEAI. The successful candidate will be a leading scholar in the field of Modern Korean Studies. We especially seek scholars with command of Korean sources, who sustain an active research and publication agenda.

The appointment will begin July 1, 2024, pending tenure review.

Qualifications

PhD required at the time of appointment. Candidates should demonstrate scholarly promise and achievement and excellence in teaching. Candidates for tenured associate or full professor should be widely recognized for their distinction and professional accomplishment.

Finalists will meet the current departmental needs for coverage in selected subfields.

The University of Southern Maine’s Department of Linguistics seeks applicants for part-time instructor positions to teach 100- to 300-level spoken languages courses for our Fall 2023 Semester. The languages we offer regularly are: American Sign Language, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Latin, Spanish, and Wabanaki languages. We occasionally offer other languages and are especially interested in a course in Korean.

The Department of Linguistics is an undergraduate program within the College of Science, Technology and Health. Linguistics students can major in general linguistics or in a number of concentrations. We also offer several minors.

Part-time faculty members are paid on a credit hour basis based on prior college teaching experience. Dynamic Language Centre was established on the principles of quality, commitment, and innovation with an objective to become Malaysia’s foremost private language centre.

It is managed by a private limited company that is joint Malaysian-American and registered in 1999 with the Registrar of Companies, Malaysia (No 480440-V). Language courses in Malay, English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean were approved by the Ministry of Education, Malaysia (PZ1D-003) on 28th February 2000. Dynamic Kids began in 2012.

Description

Qualifications

Johns Hopkins University’s Korea Studies Program in the School of Advanced and International Studies (SAIS) is accepting applications for a Korea Studies Postdoctoral Fellow for the 2023 Spring Semester. While the deadline to apply is January 20, 2023, applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. The primary research areas focus on international relations and political economy in the Asia-Pacific region (including Northeast Asia), as well as on contemporary issues concerning the Korean Peninsula and US-ROK alliance.

Appointment begins in the 2023 spring semester and could be extended to the 2023-2024 academic year based on research performance of the selected postdoctoral fellow. The fellowship is limited to recent PhDs: applicants cannot be more than five years past the awarding of their doctoral degree when the fellowship starts.

The Postdoctoral fellow is required to be in residence for the duration of the appointment and to take part in the Korea Studies activities throughout the appointed term. The fellow will also be required to present his/her research findings in seminars and to actively participate in the Korea Studies’ program. The postdoctoral fellowship is a 6-month appointment with a salary of approximately $37,500, with an additional research-related travel expense support.

Fellowship Requirement:

  • Residence in the metropolitan D.C area during the fellowship period is required;
  • Participate and engage actively in Korea Studies’ events and related academic and programming activities;
  • Submit at least one working paper for publication during his/her appointment period;
  • Organize at least one scholarly event to present the fellow’s research findings during the appointment term; and
  • Work closely with the staff and students who are affiliated with the Korea Studies program.

Description
The Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities is a residential school for academically gifted high school juniors and seniors. The Indiana Academy is located on the campus of Ball State University. This is a full-time contract position for the academic year that is renewable based on satisfactory job performance.The successful candidate will have the ability to teach at least two levels of one of these languages (i.e. Japanese I/II, Chinese I/II, ASL I/II, etc., for example).

Indiana Academy faculty, ranked in the top 15 in the nation among public high school faculty, have the opportunity to create new, unique courses based on their specializations. Faculty work together across disciplines to provide a one-of-a-kind education to Indiana’s high-ability students.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in one of the following world languages: Japanese, American Sign Language, Arabic, Chinese, Greek, Latin, Hebrew, Italian, or Korean from an accredited institution. Previous teaching experience at the secondary or undergraduate collegiate level.
Authorization to work in the US Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability and willingness to receive dual credit certification in one of the following world languages: Japanese, American Sign Language, Arabic, Chinese, Greek, Latin, Hebrew, Italian, or Korean.
