Major/Essential Functions
The Department of Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures at Texas Tech University (TTU) invites applications for a lecturer position in Korean/Japanese to begin in Summer 2023. This position is a full-time, non-tenure track, benefit-eligible position and is renewable contingent upon successful performance reviews and departmental budgets.
The successful candidate will show evidence of effective teaching, ability to develop the curriculum, interest in program coordination, and willingness to supervise and collaborate in extracurricular and outreach activities. The candidate must have an M.A. in hand by the time of appointment.
Responsibilities of the position include teaching both lower and upper-division undergraduate courses in Korean and Japanese, contributing to curriculum development, and helping with program-building, recruitment initiatives, and program events.
The Department of Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures at TTU offers a congenial and exciting context for teaching languages and cultures. The Korean and Japanese programs provide a variety of courses, ranging from language courses at various levels and courses taught in English introducing Korean and Japanese cultures. Both programs are vigorously growing. In particular, the Korean program is one of the fastest-growing programs in the department. Students also have opportunities to study abroad in Japan and Korea.

Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in a related field. Ability to teach effectively. Job assignment is full-time instruction. This position will be classified as Security Sensitive and require a criminal background check if selected for employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Native/native-like knowledge of both Korean and Japanese or at least of one of them and intermediate to advanced of the other; A professional level of English
- An MA degree in hand by the time of appointment, with specialization in Korean/Japanese language pedagogy, applied linguistics, second language studies, foreign language education, or other related fields
- Ability to develop the curriculum, including large-enrollment culture and language courses, in-person and online
- Experience with or interest in program coordination and willingness to supervise and collaborate in extracurricular and outreach activities
- Two years’ experience in second/foreign language teaching in post-secondary settings
- Demonstrated teaching effectiveness
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience developing upper-division courses in Korean/Japanese
- Familiarity with instructional technology and language assessment
