Required Degree
Bachelor’s Degree required, Masters degee preferred. A degree in the target language or business is preferred.
The required degree must be completed by the start date.
Experience
Applicant should be able to demonstrate a high proficiency with reading, speaking, and writing in the traget language, sufficient enough to teach a 300-level business languge course in the target language. NOTE: Evidence of proficiency for non-native speakers of the target language may be required. Native speaking proficiency is preferred. In addition, applicant must demonstrate proficiency in the domain of vocaulary and usage of the target language in a business context. A background or experience in business is also preferred.
Sufficient proficiency in English to teach the target language effectively to English-speaking students, counsel and motivate students, and communicate professionally with peers, supervisors, students and people outside the University
Willingness to receive additional training and professional development in the field of language pedagogy
Working proficiency in computer-based software, including Microsoft Office and internet applications
Ability to learn and successfully use Learning Management Systems (LMS), such as BYU’s Learning Suite
Duties/Expectations
Teach one or more business language courses to undergraduate and graduate studnets as assigned by the Global Business Center. Meet with students one-on-one or in small groups to provide supplemental instruction and guidance on course content. Participate in professional development training workshops and respond to recommendations for improvement. Write a course syllabus and set up course materials on the BYU Learning Suite platform. Teaching responsibilities start Winter 2023 semester, January 9, 2023.
Preferred:
Academic degree in the target language, business, and/or linguistics. Successful experience teaching the target language to speakers of other languages. An adequate understanding of business and the working business environement, and language-teaching pedagogy to develop curriculum materials and to plan lesson activities in languages where commercially published textbooks and instructional materials are seldom available. Knowledge of language-proficiency assessment criteria and the testing procedures needed to prepare and administer language tests assign grades accurately and fairly.
