Main Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • plan and prepare lesson plans that meet core objectives and principles and are in line with the curriculum goals
  • prepare instructional aids and supplemental teaching materials and resources consistent with learning objectives and student needs
  • select and requisition appropriate books, instructional aids and school supplies as needed

  • teach grammar and syntax, vocabulary and word usage and other principles of the English language
  • promote students’ understanding of and appreciation for literature
  • develop students’ verbal skills including reading out loud, discussion and debate
  • develop students’ writing skills
  • encourage the development of critical thinking skills
  • create a safe and flexible classroom environment conducive to optimal student learning
  • help students to work independently and collaboratively in groups
  • establish and maintain standards of student behavior that conform to School and District policies and promote learning in the classroom
  • encourage student responsibility, cooperation, tolerance and mutual respect in a manner consistent with School and District policies and procedures
  • establish and monitor appropriate behavior of students in extra-curricular activities
  • track and monitor student learning using a variety of techniques
  • prepare and administer assessments that are curriculum-aligned
  • grade assessments and assignments
  • keep current with district and state standardized testing and maximize student achievement on these tests
  • administer standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs
  • monitor performance and progress and modify instructional methods to meet individual needs where necessary
  • foster good working relationships with students, teachers, counselors, administrators and other stakeholders to support the development and well being of the students
  • keep parents or guardians informed of students’ academic progress and social and behavioral issues
  • coordinate parent/teacher conferences to review students’ progress
  • maintain accurate and complete student records including attendance, grades, assessments and test scores as required by district and school procedures and regulations

The Language Center (LC) at Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane (AUI), Morocco, invites applications for a faculty position in Korean Language and Culture.

English is the language of instruction at AUI. All candidates should be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and well-developed interpersonal skills with previous success in working effectively in diverse interdisciplinary, multinational and collegial teams. Prior experience and familiarity with the American-style liberal arts system will be a strong plus.

Education & Experience:

· M.A. in Korean language teaching and pedagogy or a related field;

· Minimum 3 years of full-time experience teaching, ideally in university settings in the Korean language;

· Experience with and knowledge of curriculum development and a variety of curricular approaches and methodologies for teaching Korean as a Foreign Language and/or courses related to Korean history and culture.

· Online teaching experience;

· Strong organizational skills and a collaborative approach to working with others.

Key Responsibilities:

· Teach up to 20 hours a week (full-time);

· Hold regular office hours;

· Regularly attend meetings;

· Develop learning and assessment materials;

· Collaborate with other faculty and administrative staff;

General Information
The Department of Foreign Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at James Madison University invites applications for the position of Academic Unit Head (AUH) at the rank of Full Professor, with a PhD in Modern Languages and Literatures that complement the offerings of the department. The AUH is a 12-month tenured appointment with a 1-1 teaching load, beginning July 1, 2023.
The Department of Foreign Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, which has approximately 50 full- and part-time faculty, offers B.A. in Modern Foreign Languages in Arabic, French, German, Italian and Spanish. Additionally, the department teaches Chinese, Greek, Japanese, Latin, Korean and Russian. Minors are offered in all degree languages, and Chinese and Russian. Leadership & Management

  • Take overall responsibility for the quality and ongoing development of provision within the department, including teaching and learning, curriculum documentation, extracurricular enrichment, and support for university applications.
  • Lead by example at all levels, including heading up the delivery of academic extension sessions to prepare students for university applications related to the subject area.
  • Produce an annual Department Development Plan, in line with whole-school priorities as well as those specific to the subject area, and review progress against it on a regular basis.
  • Lead the academic monitoring of the department, collaborating with colleagues to ensure that appropriate quality assurance measures are in place as per the Academic Monitoring Handbook.
  • Lead, manage and evaluate all teaching staff within the department, ensuring that they consistently maintain high levels of teaching quality and professionalism (note: in cases where department members have additional responsibilities and are line managed by other colleagues, this is a collaborative process).
  • Liaise with the appropriate member of Senior Team to ensure that the training, development and welfare needs of members of the department are met.

  • Keep up to date with educational developments and changes within the subject area.
  • Review examination results and other assessment data within the department, implementing remedial action when necessary to improve performance of the department and the students within it.

Teaching, Learning & Assessment

  • Encourage students to take a scholarly approach to their studies, fostering a love of learning and promoting the pursuit of their academic interests beyond the confines of the curriculum.
  • Create and maintain an engaging, exciting classroom environment that encourages discussion, debate and collaboration between students.
  • Ensure that students have an excellent understanding of the content outlined in departmental curriculum plans, and are able to apply it effectively.
  • Build stretch and challenge into teaching at every opportunity.
  • Use a variety of formative and summative assessment techniques to measure students’ progress and achievement, and inform teaching.
  • Provide individualised support to students who are underperforming.
  • Make effective and timely use of feedback (written, verbal and otherwise) to support students in understanding their current achievement levels and what they can do to improve them.

Enrichment

  • Support the School’s academic enrichment programme by contributing to the McCabe Lecture series, supporting student-led academic societies and delivering taught enrichment sessions.
  • Attend School events and activities as directed by the Principal and voluntarily support events such as trips, Arts Festival events, sports fixtures (home and away) and musical performances by students, after school and at weekends.
  • Deliver co-curricular activities in line with School policy.
  • Support the House Competition by attending events and encouraging student participation.

Pastoral Care

  • Always consider students’ welfare and best interests, striving to promote both at all times.
  • Support the strong pastoral emphasis within NLCS (Singapore) as a tutor, including teaching PSE. Manage a lively, enthusiastic, orderly and safe learning environment fulfilling the responsibilities of that position.
  • Develop strong relationships with students, providing guidance and support in academic, pastoral and enrichment matters.
  • Liaise with relevant colleagues with a focus on supporting student’s academic and personal development.
  • Maintain regular and positive relationships with parents with a focus on supporting their child(ren)’s academic and personal development; the spirit of communication with home should be personal and individual.
  • Liaise with and support the Pastoral Leadership team in all matters pertaining to pastoral well-being, responsibility and strategy.
  • Working alongside the Senior School Management Team to contribute to academic, pastoral and enrichment activities that broaden students’ experiences and enhance the general life of the school.
  • Follow the school’s policies and procedures with regard to pastoral provision.

About the Role

The Lecturer in Korean Studies will undertake teaching in their discipline or related areas. They will contribute to teaching at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate level, and engage in professional activities appropriate to their profession or discipline. The Lecturer of Korean Studies will also undertake administration primarily relating to their activities within the Faculty and may be required to perform the full academic responsibilities of, and related administration for, the coordination of an award program of the University.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Subject coordination and delivery, including supervision of tutors
  • Supervision of honours and postgraduate students, as required.
  • Set up and regular maintenance of the relevant subject sites on the Learning Management System (LMS);
  • Development of technology-based teaching, learning and assessment programs and resources
  • Curriculum design and innovation that contributes to strengthening Korean Studies in both language and non-language education

About You

You will possess well-established academic skills and strong academic performance. Your communication and interpersonal skills are vital in this role as you are required to be able to work effectively as part of a team and engage with a variety of stakeholders.

You will also have:

  • A completed PhD in a relevant discipline
  • Demonstrated specialisation in Korean Studies
  • Demonstrated ability for excellence in teaching Korean language and other aspects of Korean society, including course coordination, lecturing, tutoring and the capacity to initiate course development
  • Ability to supervise honours and postgraduate theses

Description

The Department of History of the University of Chicago, with the support of the Center for East Asian Studies and the US Department of Education Title VI Grant, invites applicants for a non-renewable, three-year appointment as a Postdoctoral Scholar at the rank of Instructor in Modern Korean History. We particularly welcome applications from junior scholars whose work situates Korean history in a transregional or transnational perspective and those whose work is thematically or methodologically innovative. The successful applicant will conduct research in their field, teach two undergraduate courses each year on topics chosen in consultation with a faculty mentor, and contribute to the intellectual life of the wider University.  In addition to salary and benefits, the successful applicant will also be provided with research funds to pursue their own research, for conference travel, and for planning conferences or other Korea-related events/programming. 

Qualifications

Candidates must have earned the PhD prior to the start of the appointment.
