Position Summary
The Los Rios Community College District is seeking a pool of qualified applicants for possible temporary part-time faculty teaching assignments. These positions are filled on an as needed basis and are on-going recruitment efforts.

Adjunct pools are open continuously and applicants are contacted/hired year round for assignments based on college needs.

Teaching assignments may include day, evening, on-line, hybrid, weekend, and/or off campus classes.

Additional Salary Information Initial annual salary within a given range varies, depending upon units/degrees completed at accredited colleges/universities and experience. Candidates not holding the minimum degree requirement may start at a salary lower than posted above.

The adjunct faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in his/her regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of an adjunct faculty member as outlined in the college faculty handbook.

    1. Have a master’s degree in the language being taught; OR, bachelor’s degree in the language being taught AND master’s degree in another language or linguistics ; OR, hold a California Community College Instructor’s Credential in the discipline area; OR, the equivalent.* All degrees must be from an accredited institution.
    2. Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.

Job Description

The East Asian Languages and Cultures Program in the department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at the University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applications for a full-time position at the rank of Lecturer in Korean language starting fall 2023. 

The successful candidate will teach three (3) courses per semester. In addition to these teaching duties, administrative duties include proctoring Korean placement tests and proficiency tests, supervising graduate TAs and undergraduate language tutors, and actively participating in program events and other duties based on program needs. 

The successful applicant should be well versed on the issues of Korean language education and have demonstrated a successful Korean language teaching experience in a U.S. university or college. In addition, the person should be willing to cooperate and collaborate as a team. 

This is a full-time (9-month) non-tenure track position beginning September 1, 2023 for an initial one-year appointment with the possibility of renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance and funding. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. 

Requirements

Candidates must have a MA in Korean language and linguistics, second language acquisition, foreign language education, applied linguistics, or related field; native or near-native proficiency in Korean and English; with experience in teaching Korean at the college level in the U.S. Applicants must be qualified to teach Korean at all levels. 

Preferred qualifications: PhD or EdD preferred in the fields mentioned above.

The Department of Asian Studies, University of British Columbia, invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the field of Modern Korean Popular Culture. Preference will be given to candidates with research and teaching expertise in contemporary visual and digital media culture, cinema, literature, TV, music, gaming, fandoms, and diasporic communities. We would especially welcome applicants who can engage with innovative research on Korean popular culture across a range of intellectual contexts and in interdisciplinary environments. Applicants are expected to have full professional proficiency in both Korean and English.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in a relevant field or expect to have successfully defended the dissertation before July 1, 2023. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellence or strong potential in research and undergraduate and graduate teaching and to maintain an active program of research, publication, teaching, graduate supervision, and service. Information about the Department, a leading community of innovative research and teaching in Asian studies in Canada, can be found on its website, https://asia.ubc.ca/.

The application dossier should include:

  • A letter of application;
  • A curriculum vitae;
  • A 1-page statement identifying the applicant’s contributions, or potential contributions, to diversity, and ability to work with a culturally diverse student body;

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Korean Teacher is responsible to the School Principal in the execution of professional duties and responsibilities:

 Job Role & Responsibilities

 Undertake the teaching of a class in accordance with the school’s agreed policies and guidelines

  • Create meaningful language opportunities for children where a love for Korean language and culture can be promoted
  • Ensure planning, delivery and assessment for Korean language curriculum from N2 to grade 5
  • Source and create resources to support the teaching and learning
  • Establish an effective and responsive classroom environment where children are active participants
  • Document children’s learning through contributions towards newsletters, class displays and children’s reports as per the school policy
  • Responsible for all aspects of classroom management, which will include safety and hygiene of the children and resources of the centre
  • Work closely with other teaching staff in the class in carrying out the duties
  • Build and maintain close partnership with parents

The Center for Languages & Intercultural Communication (CLIC) at Rice University in Houston, TX, is now accepting applications for a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure track Lecturer in Korean position to begin July 01, 2023.

This is a two-year appointment with a strong possibility of renewal, conditional on successful performance reviews.

Candidates with experience in teaching Korean courses for Business will be given special consideration.

Job Duties for the successful candidate will include:

  • Teaching Korean to undergraduate and graduate students with the possibility of teaching Korean for specific purposes.
  • Developing a coherently articulated program of instruction across proficiency levels.
  • Implementing an innovative research-based curriculum.
  • Designing, preparing, evaluating, and implementing syllabi, lesson plans, and assessment instruments. 
  • Participating in the development and administration of students’ language proficiency assessment tools. 
  • Participating in professional development. 
  • Organizing and participating in language-related events and recruitment activities. 

Qualifications:

Must have an M.A. in Korean, Second Language Education or related field completed by December 31, 2022, three years of experience in second language teaching, and one year of teaching Korean language at the post-secondary level in the U.S.  If the M.A. is not in Korean or Second Language Education (or similarly worded field) but is in a related field, candidate must have completed at least 3 graduate courses in language teaching methodologies or possess a certification in second language teaching methodologies at the time of interview. Teaching experience cannot substitute for coursework in second language acquisition.

Must have native or near-native ability to read, write and speak Korean and English. Proficiency in both languages is demonstrated by successfully completing a Rice video/audio interview during the interview process.

Preferred Qualifications:

– Ph.D. in Korean, Second Language Education or related field received (or having completed all the requirements for the degree) by June 30, 2023.

– Ability to teach Korean for business.
