About the Position:

The Asian Language Bilingual Teacher Education Program Consortium Coordinator supports opportunities for current and prospective K-12 teachers to obtain an Asian bilingual credential at CSU. The program is committed to supporting educational opportunities and successful career outcomes of credentialed teachers and teacher education candidates seeking Asian bilingual authorization, including, but not limited to: Vietnamese, Chinese Mandarin, Chinese Cantonese, Korean, Japanese, Hmong, Khmer, and Tagalog. By providing scholarships, Asian Language Bilingual Teacher Education Program Consortium makes access to Asian bilingual authorization more accessible to current and future teachers, constructing a future that is respectful, inclusive, and promotes validity to Asian languages, the home language of many students in K-12 public education.

Under the general direction of the CSUF Program Director for Asian Language Bilingual Teacher Education Program Consortium, the Administrative Support Coordinator I provides administrative functions and coordinates the operation, publicity and overall maintenance of the program. This individual plays a key role in providing administrative support to the program’s faculty and students and is responsible for coordinating program activities, managing program databases, and communicating with partners and board members.         Essential Qualifications:
        High School diploma or the equivalent and four years of progressively responsible experience in general office, clerical or secretarial work or the equivalent. Thorough, detailed knowledge of applicable university infrastructure, policies, and procedures. Thorough knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Thorough knowledge of office systems with the ability to use a range of technology, systems, and software packages. Ability to independently handle multiple work unit priorities and projects. Ability to apply a variety of policies and procedures where specific guidelines may not exist. Working knowledge of budget policies and procedures. Ability to perform standard business math including calculating ratios and percentages, tracking financial data, and making simple projections. Ability to handle effectively a broad range of interpersonal contacts including those at a higher level and those sensitive in nature.

        A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment.         Preferred Qualifications:
        Bachelor’s degree in education, Asian studies, or a related field. 1-2 years of relevant experience in program coordination, preferably in a higher education setting. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Familiarity with database management and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to quickly learn and interpret policies and procedures. Strong customer service experience. Passion for teaching and education.

Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching at the undergraduate level (language and culture courses) and will assist in the development or teaching of new subjects as appropriate, as well as supervising/ managing students taking Korean Language and Culture. The incumbent will also undertake all administrative tasks related to the Korean Language and Culture course.

Job Requirement

Applicants should possess a Master’s degree or higher in Korean language or a closely related field (e.g. Korean Studies, East Asian Studies) and native or near native proficiency in both Korean and English. Preference will be given to candidates with at least 2 years of teaching experience. The appointee should demonstrate a strong sense of commitment, a track record of excellence in teaching, the ability to design and deliver courses, and strong communication and presentation skills. In addition to teaching, S/he will be expected to undertake administrative tasks such as course coordination and the preparation of official documents in English.

Benefits and Appointment Terms

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and relevant experience. Fringe benefits include housing allowance, leave and social insurance. Appointments to these positions will initially be made on a fixed-term contract with mutual agreement.

Job Summary/Basic Function
The Instructor in a Concordia Language Villages Language Training Center (LTC) program is responsible for the instruction and overall implementation of a language-specific iso-immersion program as guided by the Lead Instructor/Program Coordinator. This includes planning and implementation of a variety of program elements, and may also include public relations, and interaction with the support staff from the operations areas at the Language Villages.

The Instructor is responsible for implementing program elements that reflect the mission and immersion principles/methodology of Concordia Language Villages, that align with the parameters of the Concordia LTC model, and that are in accordance with the expressed needs of the LTC client.
The Instructor reports to the respective LTC Lead Instructor and to the administrative team of Concordia Language Villages as a whole.
Minimum Qualifications
• Superior (at minimum) proficiency in the target language/dialects and Advanced (minimum) proficiency English
• Commitment to the importance of immersion language and culture education
• Knowledge of effective teaching strategies and methodologies for second language learning
• Strong organizational skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• B.A. degree in related field required, with advanced degree preferred
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the instructor position (see job description)
• Eligibility to be employed legally in the USA; assume responsibility and costs for any visa requirements
• Sympathy with the mission of a liberal arts college affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
Preferred Qualifications
• Understanding of and experience with language proficiency rating scales like the ILR and the OPI
• Experience with content-based language instruction for adults
• Experience teaching in a Concordia Language Villages program or in a comparable language immersion environment
• Experience with Learning Management Systems such as Moodle, Canvas, Blackboard and Google Classroom
• Advanced degree in a related field

Description

The Graduate Program in Second Language Acquisition at Carnegie Mellon University, Department of Modern Languages, is inviting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Second Language Acquisition, beginning in Fall 2024. Areas of specialization in need include quantitative methods, corpus or computational linguistics, L2 literacy development, and cognitive aspects of language learning. A PhD in Second Language Acquisition, Applied Linguistics, Linguistics, Psychology or related field is required. ABD will be considered. Of particular interest are candidates whose research focuses on one or more of the linguistic and cultural worlds of speakers of Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Russian, or Spanish. Research on English as a second/foreign language speech and writing is also of interest. Our faculty are known for interdisciplinary collaborations and innovation. The ideal candidate can bridge language learning with other disciplines in the Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Science, and connect with the Askwith Kenner Global Languages and Cultures Room. The successful candidate is expected to initiate and lead research, supervise PhD students, teach in the PhD and MA programs, as well as the undergraduate Applied Multilingual Studies BA program, and a language studies program, if applicable. The Department of Asian Studies at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, invites applications for a tenure-track position in the field of Korean applied linguistics to serve as Director of the Korean Language Program, with the possibility of appointment at the Assistant Professor of Teaching or Associate Professor of Teaching rank., commencing July 1, 2024.

The successful candidate will have responsibility for teaching courses in Korean language, developing curriculum in Korean language and culture, and directing a large and growing Korean language program. Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching in and coordinating a Korean language program at the post-secondary level in North America.

 

Requirements include: advanced proficiency in Korean; a Ph.D. in either Korean Language and Linguistics, Korean Applied Linguistics, Korean language pedagogy, or a closely related field; exceptional organizational and leadership skills; evidence of substantial experience and excellent teaching ability in Korean for both heritage and non-heritage learners at the post-secondary level in North America; experience preparing teaching materials independently or collaboratively; and a strong track record of full participation in team work and program affairs. Individuals with experience in community outreach, program coordination and design, and teaching innovative Content-Based Instruction (CBI) curriculum for advanced learners of Korean are particularly encouraged to apply.

We seek an exceptional teacher with a track record of employing innovative pedagogies, such as community-based learning, flexible and/or online learning. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an excellent record of teaching, service, and educational leadership.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in a relevant field or expect to have successfully defended the dissertation before July 1, 2024. The normal teaching load of an Assistant or Associate Professor of Teaching is six 3-credit courses over the academic year. Courses will range from first- to fourth-year undergraduate courses and the bulk of the annual teaching load will be courses in Korean Language for both heritage and non-heritage learners. The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with other tenure-stream Asian Studies faculty in Korean Studies. This is a tenure-track position in the Educational Leadership stream. A successful candidate hired at the Assistant Professor rank will be reviewed for reappointment, tenure, and promotion in subsequent years, in accordance with the Collective Agreement. About the Role
Join the Asia Institute at the University of Melbourne and play a pivotal role in shaping the development of Korean Studies. As a Lecturer, you’ll teach subjects related to Korean society, culture, and politics while contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate education. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinate and oversee subject teaching activities, ensuring alignment with faculty standards and appropriate modes of delivery
  • Develop teaching materials, including subject guides and reading packs
  • Manage assessment tasks, processes, and results recording, and address student queries and academic integrity issues
  • Conduct seminars, lectures, and tutorials, engage with students on subject content and assessment, and provide timely feedback on assessments while maintaining accurate attendance records

You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, and be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. You’ll demonstrate strong organisational abilities, adeptly managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines. Moreover, you will exhibit a high level of professionalism, be able to interpret relevant policies and procedures, and are committed to upholding the Faculty’s Values and Behaviors.

You will also have:

  • Completion of a doctoral qualification in a relevant discipline by the beginning of the appointment
  • Detailed understanding of Korean culture, society and politics
  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum and subject material development
  • Demonstrated experience of teaching diverse groups of students in a range of delivery modes
