Teaching Professor of Korean Studies Open Rank

East Asian Languages & Literatures – Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh

The Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a Teaching Professor (of any rank) position in Korean culture and visual culture, pending budgetary approval. The successful candidate should possess primary disciplinary training in Korean literature and culture and strong competence in film and media studies, performance studies, or a closely related discipline. A Ph.D. in Korean Studies or a related field is required by the time of appointment.

The appointment starts on September 1, 2023. The teaching load is six courses per year. The appointee will teach current undergraduate courses, develop new courses in the area of their specialization, help develop a new Korean major, and participate in the department’s interdisciplinary MA program. The successful candidate must demonstrate strengths as a teacher at all levels. The candidate must have a native or near-native user of Korean and English in all language skill areas. In addition, the new hire should be willing to take an active leadership role in the vigorous growth of the Korean program and collaborate closely with the established Korean language program. Besides working closely with other Korean studies faculty, the individual hired for this position is expected to collaborate with Asianists in other units to promote Korean studies and visual studies.

Description

The Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures at Yale University seeks a Lector/Senior Lector I in Korean language, start date July 1, 2023 – June 30, 2026. This is a 3-year full-time appointment with renewal contingent on excellent performance and sufficient enrollments. Primary duties include teaching six courses or the equivalent per year, which can be realized through teaching five term courses in the language sequence with a sixth equivalent of effort in, for example, administration and course coordination.

Salary and rank are commensurate with experience and qualifications. If the initial appointment is at the rank of Lector, a promotion review for Senior Lector I must take place in the fifth year or earlier. Senior lectors at Yale are expected to participate in teaching-related professional activities (e.g., workshops, seminars, training activities, conferences) and have no limits on reappointment, provided there is successful performance and ongoing curricular need.

Lectors are eligible for Yale’s generous package of benefits, including health coverage, and they are encouraged to participate in the wide range of professional development opportunities offered through the Center for Language Study, the Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning, and the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office.

Qualifications

Applicants must have: 1) native or near-native fluency in Korean; 2) a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent, by the time of hire. It is strongly preferred that applicants have: 1) experience teaching Korean in a U.S. university or equivalent to heritage and non-heritage learners, using current teaching methodologies; 2) M.A. or Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) by the time of hire, in second-language pedagogy, Korean language/linguistics, applied linguistics, or other related field. Experience in curriculum development and incorporating technology in the classroom is desirable. Research profile in foreign language pedagogy a plus.

The Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures at Yale University is looking to hire a tenure-track appointment at the rank of assistant professor in Korean literature/media and/or related humanities fields beginning July 1, 2023. Scholars of both premodern and modern Korea will be considered, and we encourage applications from scholars with any area of specialization, including those whose work traverses’ multiple East Asian languages and/or is comparative in method. The teaching expectation is normally four courses per academic year, plus service to the program.

Qualifications

The appointee must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree or have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. by time of hire. Applicants should have native or near-native fluency in Korean.

The School of Arts and Sciences, Department of Asian Languages and Cultures invites applications for a Part-time Instructor position in Korean language for Korean-English Translation and Interpreting courses starting January 2023.The appointment is for one semester, with the possibility of long-term renewal based on performance and funding availability.
The Rutgers Korean language program offers elementary through advanced levels of Korean language for major and non-major undergraduate students. The successful candidate is expected to work with current faculty members in the Korean-English Translation & Interpreting Certificate Program (https://alc.rutgers.edu/academics/undergraduate/the-korean-english-translation-interpreting-certificate-program) to support our goal of achieving excellence in teaching. Salary is commensurate with teaching experience and is based on Rutgers University salary scales.
COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Under Policy 60.1.35, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. The School of Liberal Arts, Department of World Languages, is looking for adjunct faculty who are able to teach the Korean Language. Eligible candidates would be responsible for teaching daytime classes in either face-to-face or online synchronous modalities. Responsibilities include: assessing student progress in meeting the learning objectives through formal and informal assessment, meeting required deadlines for submitting grades, attendance, and other information, as requested, and adhering to safety procedures and departmental standards. Other duties include 45 hours of instruction per semester per class, and maintaining online materials in Canvas, AACC’s learning management system.

Pay Philosophy
Starting salaries for PT Faculty are based on educational achievement.  Initial placement is within the starting salary range.  Further advancements are based on longevity and educational growth.

「基礎演習Ⅰ」「基礎演習Ⅱ」「新入生ゼミナールⅠ」「新入生ゼミナールⅡ」
２．このほかの科目や，大学院の科目を担当していただく場合もあります。
３．学生の指導，各種委員会業務，入学試験関連業務をはじめ本学が必要と認める業務があります。

応募資格

１．本学の「求める教員像」を理解し，実践できる方。

２．「韓国・朝鮮文化」に関する研究業績を有する方。
３．大学において韓国語（朝鮮語・ハングル）教育の経験を2年以上有する方。
４．海外研修の指導や学生引率、現地大学・機関等との各種折衝ができる方。
５．博士の学位を有する方，もしくはこれと同等以上の研究業績を有する方。
６．国籍は問いませんが、業務に支障のない日本語能力を有する方。
７．着任後は，本学に通える範囲に居住できる方。

待遇

１.　給　　与：本学園給与規程に基づきます。
２.　勤務時間：本学園就業規則に基づきます。
３.　休　　日：日曜日・祝日・その他。ただし，授業日数確保のため，曜日振替や国民の祝日に授業を実施することがあります。
４.　保　　険：日本私立学校振興・共済事業団，雇用保険等
５.　退職金：本学園退職金規程に基づきます。
６.　研究費：教育研究関係経費（個人研究費）規程に基づきます。
７.　定　　年：本学の定年は満65歳です。

書類審査，面接及び模擬授業
第一次選考は「書類選考」とします。
第二次選考は，第一次選考合格者を対象に「面接」及び「模擬授業」をオンラインで実施します。
なお，第二次選考前に，担当予定科目「韓国語入門Ⅰ・Ⅱ」のシラバス（本学所定の書式）1部を提出していただきます。シラバスの作成については，添付ファイルの「シラバス作成のガイドライン」に従って，作成してください。書式内の「前年度の授業の自己評価」の欄は記入の必要はございません。

選考の結果は，後日，文書にて通知いたします。
