The Institute for Korean Studies at IU promotes interdisciplinary approaches to the understanding of South and North Korea. IU has a distinguished history in Korean Studies and is one of the oldest programs in the nation. This distinction, along with leading-edge resources and faculty expertise in the field, makes us a hub for Korean Studies in the Midwest.

Job Summary

Department Specific Responsibilities

  • Organizes colloquia, seminars, and lectures.
  • Hosts international academic conferences and meetings in partnership with other institutions.
  • Coordinates research projects for all levels (undergraduate, graduate, and professional).
  • Hosts cultural events and programs for the campus community and the public.
  • Administers the Bloomington Sejong Institute program for the Bloomington community and surrounding areas.
  • Maintains grant reports, budgets, and other related documents for proper reconciliation.
  • Updates the IKS website, blog, and social media platforms.
  • Leads a team of volunteers.
  • Promotes all aspects of Korean Studies.

General Responsibilities

  • Plans, directs and implements programs or events, including the creation of materials to support these events.
  • Provides staff communications and serves as liaison to program participants, collaborators in other units, community partners, vendors and the public; approves staff purchase requests; arranges staff travel, accommodations, and research activities.
  • Provides mechanisms, training, and advice on a variety of issues such as budget management software and advanced strategies for timely spending of grant funds. May be responsible for meeting revenue targets.
  • Recruits, trains, directs, schedules, and evaluates faculty and staff partners, students and volunteers. Mentors, serves as a resource and provides guidance to team staff members as needed.
  • Researches available grants and works closely with managers to identify funding needs and potential sources, creates grant proposals that further advance support of the program and program participants; May be responsible for meeting revenue targets.
  • Constructs and administers program budgets and approves spending. Tracks progress on deliverables, analyzes data on projected spending and prepares reports for higher management and funding sources.
  • Keeps abreast of best practices to recommend policies and procedures that deliver a quality program experience.

The Berea College Asian Studies Department announces a full-time, one-year faculty position as Visiting Assistant Professor of Asian Studies, beginning August 2023. The Department of World Languages & Cultures at the University of Utah invites applications for a full-time, career-line Instructor (Lecturer) in Korean for a one-year term beginning July 1, 2023. Renewal is possible pending performance and funding approval. The teaching load is three courses per semester. The successful candidate will be prepared to teach Korean language courses at all levels, as well as content courses related to culture. The instructor will function as a team member, participating actively in curricular and program affairs and coordinating curriculum with other Korean section faculty.

The candidate must have an MA degree in Korean language instruction, Korean linguistics, Korean Studies, or a related field. PhD preferred. Demonstrated experience in teaching Korean as a second language at the university level and native or near-native fluency in both Korean and English are required. Experience with instructional technologies, up-to-date teaching methodologies, demonstration of active participation in the professional field, and familiarity with the North American educational context are highly desirable. The successful candidate may be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor (Lecturer) depending on their level of qualifications.

About the Position:

The Department of Modern Languages, Linguistics, and Intercultural Communication (MLLI) at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) invites applications for a Visiting Lecturer of Korean Language to begin in Fall 2023. This is a one-year, full-time position that contributes to the growing Korean area in MLLI. 

The visiting lecturer will teach Korean language courses at all levels. The teaching load is four courses per semester. Qualified candidates should have a master’s or a doctoral degree in Korean language pedagogy or a related field. Candidates should also have a native or near-native proficiency in Korean and English. Candidates with experience in teaching multiple levels of Korean in a university setting are preferred. Candidates who implement current teaching methods and technology in the field are also preferred. MLLI is particularly interested in candidates with a dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusive excellence in higher education.

(1) a CV including courses taught; 

(2) a cover letter detailing their qualifications for this job;

Summary:

The DPRK Strategic Research Center at KIMEP University in Almaty, Kazakhstan, is looking for a motivated and proactive Research Fellow, with native fluency in Korean, to work jointly with the Principal Investigator – Dr. Chan Young Bang – and the staff of the Center, on issues related but not limited to: the North Korean economy, North Korean politics, foreign relations of North Korea, and geopolitical issues on the Korean Peninsula and in East Asia.

The center is seeking an individual passionate about research and interested in deepening their knowledge of economic development in North Korea. This position would suit a researcher interested in:

  • Northeast Asian Geopolitics;
  • International Relations of China;
  • Inter-Korean Affairs;
  • The Economy of the DPRK.

Ideally, the Research Fellow will be versed in translating and adapting analytic and academic writing, opinion pieces and policy papers from English to Korean. The Research Fellow should have a genuine interest in the future of North Korea and the Korean peninsula. If they wish, he/she will have the possibility to teach one course a year and/or semester.

The DPRK Strategic Research Center works collectively under the guidance of Dr. Bang, therefore it is important that the Research Fellow be able to work as part of a team; individual research output is also encouraged, however the emphasis remains on producing solid analysis, thought-provoking opinion pieces and analytical pieces to be published with premium international outlets and academic journals.

HSS is looking for applicants who have strong interest in joining the Language and Communication Studies Division and helping our students to learn foreign languages other than English. The appointees are expected to commence work in AY 2023-24. 

Assistant Professor (Teaching)/Lecturer (Teaching-stream)

Applicants should have a doctoral degree in related fields from a renowned university and ideally, at least 3 years of experience in teaching German, Spanish, Korean, or Japanese to students at the tertiary level. Applicants should be able to teach in both English and the language that they specialize in.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECIoffers grants in favor of foreign citizens* and Italian citizens living abroad (IRE)** for the academic year 2023-24 in order to foster international cooperation in cultural, scientific and technological fields, to promote Italian language and culture and to support Italy’s economic system in the world (according to Law 288/55 and its subsequent changes and additions).

 

Grants are offered to complete study courses and research/training programs in public or legally recognized Italian educational institutions.

 

Scholarships are available to attend academic courses onsite on the Italian territory only.

 

The list of eligible foreign countries can be found on the website Study in Italy:

https://studyinitaly.esteri.it/en/call-for-procedure.

 

 

Art. 1

GRANTS OPPORTUNITIES

 

  1. Master’s Degree (Laurea Magistrale 2° ciclo)

Grants for Master’s Degree courses are awarded for a period of study of 6 (six) or 9 (nine) months.

Admission to the first year of a Master’s Degree course in Italy requires the completion of a Bachelor’s degree; admission to the second year is granted to applicants who can prove satisfactory academic progress with their first year exams.

 

Please Note: For some Master’s Degree (Laurea Magistrale) courses, enrollment is possible only after passing admission tests. Applicants are urged to verify this or other requirements with the University of their choice. Pre-enrollment through the portal https://www.universitaly.it/ might also be mandatory.

 

1.2 Courses of Higher Education in Arts, Music and Dance (AFAM) 

Grants for Courses of Higher Education in Arts, Music and Dance (AFAM) are awarded for a period of study of 6 (six) or 9 (nine) months.

 

To be admitted to an Italian AFAM Institute, applicants need to meet the entry requirements and academic qualifications established by the relevant Institute.

 

Please Note: For some AFAM courses, enrollment is possible only after passing admission tests. Applicants are urged to verify this or other requirements with the AFAM Institute of their choice. Pre-enrollment through the portal https://www.universitaly.it/ might also be mandatory.

 

  1. PhD program

Grants for a PhD program are awarded for a period of study of 6 (six) or 9 (nine) months.

 

To be admitted to a PhD in Italy, applicants need to meet the entry requirements and academic qualifications established by the University.

 

They are also required to provide the admission letter to the PhD from the relevant Italian University. 

 

1.4 Research projects under academic supervision (Progetti in co-tutela)

Grants for a research under academic supervision are awarded for a period of study of 6 (six) or 9 (nine) months.

 

This type of grants can be awarded to research projects carried out at Italian Research Institutions  (i.e. Italian Research Council – CNR, Italian National Institute of Health – ISS, Italian National Institute for Nuclear Physics – INFN, Italian National Institute for Astrophysics – INAF, The Italian Institute for Environmental Protection and Research – ISPRA, and others), public or recognized Universities, Museums and Archives.

 

Applicants must submit a research project, with the name and contacts (e-mail address) of their supervisor, and provide the invitation/acceptance letter from the host University/Institute.

 

1.5 Italian language and culture advanced courses 

Grants for Italian language and culture courses are awarded for a period of study of3 (three) months. They are dedicated to those students who can already certificate the possession of basic 

skills in Italian.

 

Applicants must provide a certification regarding their proficiency in Italian language. The minimum level required is A2 within the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR):

Art. 2

ELIGIBILITY

 

Applications must be sent exclusively through the Study in Italy portal. Applicants must be in possession of a valid passport or identity card. They must upload a legible photocopy of the document at the time of registration, under penalty of exclusion. Applicants must also be in possession of the following requirements by the deadline date of the call (June 9th 2023, 2.00 pm CET):

  1. Academic qualifications

Applications must only be submitted by foreign and Italian students living abroad (IRE)* holding an appropriate academic qualification required to enroll to the Italian University/Institute (more information on: https://studyinitaly.esteri.it/en/Recognition-of-qualification).

 

  1. Age requirements

Applicants for Master’s Degree/Higher Education in Arts, Music, and Dance (AFAM) Programmes/ Italian Language and Culture advanced Courses should have attained the age of majority and shall 

not exceed the age of 28 years by the deadline of this call (born after June 9th 1994), with the sole exception of renewals.

 

Applicants for PhD Programmes should have attained the age of majority and shall not exceed the age of 30 years by the deadline of this call (born after June 9th 1992), with the sole exception of renewals.

 

Applicants for Research Projects under academic supervision should have attained the age of majority and shall not exceed the age of 40 years by the deadline of this call (born after June 9th 1982).

 

  1. Language proficiency

2.3.1 Italian-taught courses

In order to enroll in an Italian-taught course, applicants must provide a certification regarding their proficiency in Italian language. The minimum level required is B2 within the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

 

Candidates who were enrolled in an Italian-taught course or in an Italian language course at University may submit a language certification, issued by the person in charge of the above mentioned courses, certifying the Italian language level required. 

 

2.3.2 English-taught courses

In order to enroll in an English-taught course, applicants must provide a language certification regarding their proficiency in English Language. The minimum level required is B2 within the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

 

A self-certification may be accepted for candidates from countries where English is an official language. Candidates in possession of an English-taught Bachelor’s degree may submit a document certifying that the study program of their Bachelor’s degree was entirely held in English.

 

No proof of proficiency in Italian is required for courses entirely taught in English. 

2.3.3 Italian language and culture advanced courses

For Italian language and culture courses, applicants must provide a certification of their proficiency in Italian language. The minimum level required is A2 within the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

 

Candidates who were enrolled in an Italian language or Italian-taught course at the University or Italian Cultural Institute may submit a language certification issued by the person in charge of the above mentioned courses, certifying the Italian language level required. 

 

 

2.3.4 PhD programs and Research projects under academic supervision

No proof of language proficiency is required for PhD programs and Research under academic supervision.

 

 

Art. 3

RENEWALS

 

Applicants who have received a MAECI grant in the Academic Year 2022-2023 may apply through ordinary procedures to continue or complete a multi-year degree course (Master’s Degrees and PhD programs) according to the legal duration of the course. Any renewal of the scholarship is granted only to regularly enrolled applicants who can prove satisfactory academic progress with a minimum of 15 University Credits (CFU) required. For Phd programs it will be necessary to provide a positive evaluation letter from the tutor. 

 

In order to receive the grant, a full-time regular enrollment (“iscrizione in corso”) to the Academic Year 2023-24 is mandatory.

 

 

Art. 4

FUNDING PERIOD

 

Grantees can benefit of the grant in a period of study starting November 1st, 2023 and ending by October 31st 2024.

 

The number of months assigned to the winners and the exact starting date of the grant will be notified by sending the “Dichiarazione di assegnazione di borsa di studio” (Awarding Letter) by the competent Italian diplomatic mission. This document represents the official act awarding the grant. The grantee will have to initiate the university enrollment procedures and, if necessary, the VISA application procedures before the starting date of the grant. 

 

 

Art. 5

INELIGIBILITY

 

Italian Public Administration employees and their first-degree descendants cannot apply for grants.

 

Grants cannot be awarded to attend: Single Cycle Degree Programs; Bachelor’s Degree courses (first cycle or “lauree triennali”) – except for AFAM first cycle courses which are allowed –; First-level/Second-level Postgraduate courses (“Master Universitari”); single courses or one-year university and specialization courses.

Grants cannot be awarded to attend courses in foreign Institutions based in Italy or abroad, nor in private Institutes, Research Centres or Labs not recognized by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR).

 

Grants cannot be awarded to candidates that are being either enrolled beyond the prescribed legal duration of the course (it: “fuori corso”) or enrolled part-time.

 

Applications that do not meet the eligibility criteria will not be considered.

 

 

Art. 6

ATTANASIO GRANTS

 

In memory of Ambassador Attanasio and his team members (Vittorio Iacovacci and Mustapha Milambo), also for the adademic year 2023-24, a reserve of three scholarships will be provided for candidates coming from Morocco, Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo, who aim to start or pursue their course of studies in the fields of international relationships, cooperation for development, international humanitarian law and human rights, with a preference for Master’s Degrees classified LM-38 (Modern Languages for communication and cooperation), LM-52 (International relations), LM-62 (Political Sciences), LM-81 (Cooperation for development Sciences), LM-87 (Social services and social policies).

Art. 7

WIKIAFRICA EDUCATION – HIGHER EDUCATION INITIATIVE

 

In collaboration with the Aurora Foundation, MAECI grantees from the African continent, speakers of African languages, ​​are offered the opportunity to take part in the WikiAfrica Higher Education Initiative. The program promotes the active participation of students with the aim of making specialized information on Africa available online. The initiative is developed by the Moleskine Foundation in partnership with the Wikimedia Foundation and the Aurora Foundation.

 

 

Art. 8

SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS

 

Applicants must submit the application online, available upon registration on Study in Italy platform at the following link: 

https://studyinitaly.esteri.it

 

We recommend to register on the Study in Italy portal through a frequently used email address, as further communications will be sent to the chosen email address.  

 

Applications must be received by June 9th  2023, 2 pm CET.

 

Applications received after the deadline will be rejected. 

 

 

Art. 9

SELECTION AND AWARDING OF GRANTS

 

  1. Selection of the candidates 

Applications will be evaluated by a Committee set up by the competent Italian Diplomatic Mission. 

 

  1. Awarding procedures

Grants will be awarded on the basis of a comparative assessment of applications according to the entry requirements and other criteria of merit related to applicant’s cv.

 

9.3  Publication of the Ranking List

The competent Diplomatic Mission will publish on its website the list of grantees and any reserve candidates. The ranking list is final. Only the successful candidates will be notified of the assignment of the scholarship through the Study in Italy portal. Exclusion of the name of a candidate in the list of winners and reserves published by the diplomatic mission implies that the candidate has not been awarded the grant. If, for privacy and/or security reasons, the publication of the ranking list is not possible, the successful candidates will be notified individually.

 

 

Art. 10

TUITION FEES

Some Universities exempt Grantees from the payment of enrollment and tuition fees depending on the policy of each University in line with the regulations on the autonomy of academic institutions. The Grantees have to contact their University of choice to ascertain they can be exempted. Regional Fees are due anyway.

 

The exemption is not applied for Italian language and culture advanced courses, for which the payment of registration and tuition fees is required.

 

 

Art. 11

HEALTH AND MEDICAL INSURANCE

 

Grantees will be covered by a collective health and medical insurance, contracted by MAECI, in case of illness or accident. The insurance is valid exclusively for the duration of the grant.

 

Illnesses depending on pre-existing physical or pathological conditions and dental care are excluded from the insurance coverage. Grantees coming from EU countries are advised to get the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).

 

 

Art. 12

TERMS OF GRANT

 

The winner of a MAECI scholarship, based on the starting date of the grant and the number of months indicated in the “Dichiarazione di assegnazione di borsa di studio” (Awarding Letter), will receive a monthly amount of 900 euros paid periodically every two or every three months to the personal current account, opened in his/her name, with an Italian banking Institution.

 

The installment of the grant can be received, in conformity with the administrative procedures required, only after the completion of enrollment in the University/Institute and the submission of all the documents requested (Italian Tax code and IBAN).

 

The MAECI will begin the disbursement procedures at the end of each period of two or three months. Individual payments will therefore commence after that period.

 

The last monthly installment will be paid only upon verification of a satisfactory academic progress.   

 

 

Art. 13

INCOMPATIBILITY

 

The grant is incompatible with any other grant offered by the Italian Government or any other Italian public institution, including the scholarships provided by educational regional authorities and agencies.

The Grant is compatible with other European programs, such as Erasmus and Erasmus+, and other scholarships offered by international institutions, but it will not be paid for the periods of study outside Italy. In order to receive the monthly amount the Grantee must have been staying in Italy

for more than half of that particular month.

검사결과 부적합 시 ‘2차 전형탈락

(면접 및 수업시연) 면접과 수업 시연 합산점수 평균이 60 이상인 자 중 고득점자 순으로 선발

(면접) 활동계획, 인성 및 태도, 사업에 대한 이해도, 어학능력 등 종합 평가(영어 질의 포함)

(수업시연) 수업설계, 교수능력, 학생활동 및 학습환경 조성 등 종합 평가

※ 면접시간 10분, 수업시연(영어로 진행) 시간 10분 부여 [단, 교수학습지도안은 1차시(50) 분량으로 작성]

< 공 통 >

 

 

 

◦ 본 사업에 참여하는 파견자는 파견기간 동안 적극적으로 활동해야 하며, 성실히 업무를 수행해야 함

파견 대상국의 사정 등에 따라 합격을 취소할 수 있음

◦ 접수결과 응시자가 선발 예정인원과 같거나 적을 경우, 재공고 후 선발할 수 있음

선발 심사 결과에 따라 합격자는 선발 예정인원보다 적거나 없을 수 있음

◦ 파견 대상국의 사정 등에 따라 파견인원, 지원내역, 교육봉사활동조건, 파견시기, 파견기간 등이 변경될 수 있음

◦ 심사 및 평가 세부사항은 공개하지 아니함

◦ 파견자 선발 후 해당국의 비자발급 등 행정처리 및 파견국 사정 등에 의해 파견이 지연될 수 있으며, 지원사항(지원금, 체재비 등)은 실제 출국기간을 기준으로 지원함

◦ 파견활동 중 활동태만 등의 사유로 파견 활동 중단 및 귀국 조치될 수 있고, 파견활동 중단 및 귀국 조치 시 기 지급한 체재비 및 지원금 등을 반납해야 하며, 향후 국립국제교육원 주관 모든 프로그램에 지원이 불가

 

< 지원자격 사항 위반 관련 >

 

 

 

성범죄 등 범죄사실이 확인될 경우 합격을 취소함

◦ 징계의결요구 중이거나 징계기록이 말소되지 않은 경우 합격 취소

◦ 합격자 발표 이후에 신체검사결과(기저질환자*) 또는 정신 건강상 치료(약물 복용자 포함)로 인한 해외봉사활동에 지장이 예상될 경우 합격을 취소할 수 있음

* 고혈압, 당뇨, 고지혈증, 갑상선 기능저하증, 천식, 결핵, 만성폐쇄성폐질환, 신장/심장/뇌혈관 질환, 암 완치자 등

◦ 최종합격자로 결정되더라도 임용 결격사유가 발견되었을 시 합격 취소 가능

◦ 파견대상자가 사전에 포기하거나, 신체검사 결과 등 부적합, 결격사유가 있는 경우 예비 합격자 순위에 따라 합격자를 결정할 수 있음

◦ 가족 동반(배우자, 자녀 등) 시 가족에 대한 지원은 일체 불가

※ 가족 동반에 따른 각종 문제 발생 시 모든 책임은 파견자 본인에게 있음

◦ 사전연수 또는 종료 후 개인 병력이나 범죄 사실을 숨기거나 지원서 허위기재 및 허위서류 제출, 각종 자격증 및 증명서를 위조한 사실이 확인될 경우, 국내교육 중인 자는 퇴소 조치하며 파견 중인 경우에는 중도 계약해지 및 손해배상을 청구할 수 있으며, 향후 국립국제교육원 주관 모든 프로그램에 지원 불가

 

< 파견 연장 및 연기 관련>

 

 

 

◦ 파견대상자로 선발된 이후에는 개인 사정에 따른 파견 연기는 불가(중도포기 처리)하므로, 개인 일정을 충분히 고려하여 지원

 

 

< 사전 연수 관련 >

 

 

 

◦ 파견대상자는 파견을 위한 사전 연수에 반드시 참여해야 하며, 사전연수 기간 중 본인의 귀책사유(교육규정 미준수 등) 및 봉사자로서의 자질과 태도가 부적절하다고 판단될 경우 퇴소 조치할 수 있으며, 이 경우 국립국제교육원은 개인 신변에 관한 어떠한 책임도 지지 않음

◦ 파견자로 합격 후, 단순 변심 등으로 인한 사전 연수 불참 및 파견 전 취소 시 향후 국립국제교육원 주관 사업에 지원 불가

 

 

< 기 타 >

 

 

 

파견자가 공무원일 경우, 파견기간은 관련법령에 따른 고용휴직 처리되며 각 교육청별 고용휴직 조건 등을 사전에 확인 필요(, 현지 사정에 의해 수업시수 등이 변경될 수 있으며, 직 시 수업시수 등에 따라 경력인정비율이 다를 수 있음)

◦ 파견기간 중 교육원 요청 시 단기해외교육봉사 사업 등 타 ODA 사업과 연계 활동을 할 수 있음

◦ 사업 환경 변화 등에 따라 차년도 연장 신청이 불가할 수 있음

변경사항 및 합격자 공고는 국립국제교육원 홈페이지에 게시하며, 확인하지 않아 발생하는 모든 불이익에 대한 책임은 본인에게 있음
