The Role

A unique opportunity exists for a professionally qualified academic with expertise in Translation Studies (specialisation in Translation Technology) in the position of Senior Lecturer in the Department of Linguistics at Macquarie University. The successful candidate will actively engage in all aspects of the department including research, learning and teaching, supervision of research students (Masters to higher degree), administration and actively engage with other areas and colleagues across the Department and Faculty.

In recognition of the diversity of skills and experience required, this position is offered for appointment within either the Teaching and Research or the Technical/Industry/Commercial Job Family. The Technical/Industry/Commercial Academic is a specialist academic role designed to be a bridge between industry/commercial enterprise and academia, and/or to accommodate hybrid technical/academic roles that are grounded in research or teaching. Senior Lecturer – Teaching and Research Job family

Essential criteria

• PhD in Linguistics, Translation and Interpreting Studies, or a related discipline
• Demonstrated teaching experience in Translation and Interpreting Studies at postgraduate level and in the use of specialised technologies applied to translation and interpreting professional practices
• A commitment and capability to deliver high-quality learning and teaching, including the design, delivery, and management of units of study, lectures, seminars, tutorials, and the design and delivery of authentic assessment tasks
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with an ability to relate to staff and students from all backgrounds and to represent the Department to external stakeholders and the public.
• Research expertise aligned with research strengths in the Department, and with Macquarie University’s future-shaping research priorities
• Extensive experience of research student supervision
• Evidence of a defined research agenda and a track record of high-quality publications, successful competitive grants or excellent prospects for attracting external funding
• Experience in the development of ongoing partnerships with industry and/or professional bodies
• Proficiency in one or more of the languages other than English taught in the program (Chinese, French, Japanese, Korean, Spanish).

Senior Lecturer – Technical/Industry/Commercial Job Family

Essential criteria

• Demonstrated outstanding engagement and leadership within one’s profession or discipline through industry engagement, consulting, policy development or research development.
• Experience of research student supervision
• Proficiency in one or more of the languages other than English taught, in the program (Chinese, French, Japanese, Korean, Spanish).

We are looking for excellent Korean teachers for a university in Wuhan city, Hubei province, China.

It is a one school year contract starts in Sep. 2023.
Job Description:
1. Location: Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China
2. Teaching oral Korean to students aged 18-21 (freshmen and Sophomore)
3. Making lesson preparation and delivering lessons according to university course
4. Evaluating students process and providing ongoing guidance for improvement
5. Participating school activities
6. Contract Term: September 2023-June 2024
7. Work days: Monday-Friday, 2days off on weekend, no office hour
8. Work hours: 14-16 teaching hours per week (45 minutes/ teaching hour)

Salary and Benefits:

Compensation

• Location: at their office in 01099 Dresden.

• Their current Korean level is Beginner (A1). Native German speakers.

• Classes should be held once to twice a week, during office hours ( to be agreed with the tutor).

• They would like to start as soon as possible.

Ideal teacher should:

• Be a native speaker of the language OR hold a teaching degree

Responsibilities

• Teach classes according to the curriculum guidelines.
• Prepare a yearly scheme of work as well as termly and weekly plans for the classes to be taught.

• Design appropriate learning strategies to deliver the curriculum.

Requirements

• Degree-level qualifications
• 3 years of teaching experience in the relevant subject area.

• An IB continuum setting, however, teachers who have worked in other inquiry-based programmes will also be considered.
